VRYKOLAKAS interview for dark recollections 'zine

1.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: for those not familiar with the kult known as vrykolakas give a brief band bio..
ANDY: first of all, i like to thank you willhelm and dark recollection zine for the interview and support... vrykolakas was formed in summer 91 by nkai(guitar) after the demise of his old band bestial colony, in hoping to play sick black/ death metal influence by blasphemy, sarcofago etc...but after the release of demo 92, problem started to arise with band members become big head and arrogent.. so kai decided to sack all of them and looked for replacement...quite number of musicians joined in as sessionist but does not suit to kai's standard... so kai decided to put vrykolakas to rest while he searched to a suitable line up...so for 7 yrs kai preference of taste was changed and he wanted a new direction of playing dark brutal death metal..in 97, he recruite iman and me since we have good experience in playing death metal with couple of bands since 1990... and zainal(drum) of necrous agreed to record 1 release for us since he occupied with tons of bands..so in 99, a promo song was release and we press like 100 copies for fanzine and friends to state that vrykolakas was reformed and ready to take the world...we recieve mixed reviews from magazines/radio stations but it a good promo for us..in 2001 3 labels releases out demo, ep and split in cassette format..also in same time we release ourselves a 5 songs mcd under our production vrykoblast prod....after the mcd release zainal left the band and eddy of sadistic story replaced zainal on permenant basis..so in june 04, we recorded our first debut album "spawned from hellfire and brimstones"which recieve very positive reviews from the media...now vrykolakas is preparing to record our 2nd album "unleashed vrykolakas upon mankind"..8 traxx of sick dark brutal death metal...
2. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: introduce current line up... who does what, plays what instruments?
ANDY: our current line up are andi on vocals, kai on guitars, iman on guitars and eddy on drums.
3. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: is this the original line up?
ANDY: this is not the original line up. but it a permanent ones.i hope..(laugh)
4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: who came up with the name vrykolakas... is there some kind of meaning to word?
ANDY: vrykolakas was originate by kai's idea.. a very unique yet not a cliche type of name.. the name vrykolakas was taken from a book of greek myth..vrykolakas was a cursed ancient demon in the times of greek mythical godz, zeus!it was banished by zeus to eternity so vrykolakas took revenge by devoured on humans for blood in every fullmoon. it was later killed by zeus mighty son hercules! this is one of the myth stories about vrykolakas in the ancient greek myth...
5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: what has vrykolakas released during its existance? (demos, eps, ?)
have any of the demo tracks been re-recorded and re-released.. would your demos ever be released on cd?
ANDY: we did plan to release all vrykolaks past demos, eps split in a cd format but not in a near future. we concentrate on releasing other bands album now...maybe in the near future.hopefully
6.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: was the band broken up at some point or has the band stayed together after all those years?
ANDY: i wont repeat my answer again since i did answer this on the first question.. please refer to it..
7.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: talk about your new cd "spawned from hellfire and brimstones"
are you satisfied with the way recording came out?
 ANDY: we are satisfied with the songwriting but the recording was a letdown..but shokingly many metalheads did like our sound because it sounded raw and old school...even the reviews for magazine, webzine are very overwhelming and good. I think only 1 webzine from greece that doesnt like our sound..and he wrote nothing else about the band except the sound..lol!!
8. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: can we expect to see "spawned from hellfire and brimstones" released on black gold?(vinyl)
ANDY: we really wish for spawned from hellfire to be release on lp format..we just hope one day labels will approach us to release the hellfire album on vinyl...
9.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: what kind of distribution has been arranged for cd... would album be available in europe
and u.s.a?
ANDY: except for few major labels, our cds can be found in many labels mailorders...we trade and consign with quite a number of labels in the europe and states...
10.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: what is the scene like where you live... any bands you recommend checking out?
ANDY: s'pore have a very small scene due to our size.(twice as small as ny). we have around 1000++ metalheads but nearly half of them involved played in the band...we have good bands coming from singapore like impiety which make a impact in the underground scene..other veterens like as sahar, eibon, rudhra, vrykolakas(jejeje) have also get recognise in the scene and have their own followers... new bands like sadistic impaler was signed by ketzer rec of germany and flesh disgorged will also appear on sevared rec...these are few new bands that really promote themselves in the scene...salutes to them!!!
11.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: have you done any live shows... what bands have you played with... any international bands?
ANDY: we played in number of shows since we reformed and our recent gig was in bangkok thailand when we play in a headliner together with a couple of great death/grind thailand bands.....we did played before with surrender of divinity of thailand, sigh of japan..shit i forgot what bands we played with..lol!!!
12.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: any merchandise available from you to the public? (list items, prices, and how to get stuff)
ANDY: yep, our "hellfire from brimstones" cds are still available for us for us$13(include p & p) and the first time in 15 yrs, vrykolakas "hellfire and brimstones" tshirt for us$14....we have also other cds that release by vrykoblast prod like 5 way split cd,(lacerate, koma, insision,cardiac necropsy,vrykolakas), deathguy of thailand full length album and our new release putridity of poland with a discography cd...
