GREY interview for Dark Recollections 'zine

1. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: for those not familiar with Grey... introduce the band.

GREY: AJ-Bass
Suzanne-Guitar and Vocals
Ty-Drums

2. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Who came up with the name Grey...and why was it chosen?

GREY: AJ came up with the name. It was chosen because to us it was simple, somber, but also open to individual interpretation.

3. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: If i'm not wrong the band existed under another name... tell us about other band prior to Grey... was the music style different?

GREY: Correct, our previous band was Baba Yaga.a DooM band that existed around 1996-2000 with various line-ups. The last solid line-up included the three of us.

4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What inspired you to start playing together as a band and start Grey..?

GREY: After four years apart, we missed creating music together. AJ had been in Europe for three and a half years, so we basically started after she returned.

5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What do you expect to accomplish with Grey this time around?

GREY: We really just want to play some Heavy DooM. We're defiantly dedicated to Grey, we've played numerous shows, toured, recorded a demo.we just want to keep that momentum going.

6. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Talk about your demo "Stand Before DooM" (is that the right name?)

GREY *Stand Before DooM* demo available for free download @ www.myspace.com/greydoom
GREY: Yes, it is the Stand Before DooM demo.
The demo was recorded in September 2005 by Jo Rizzi.
It was basically material for us to bring on tour.

7. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Have you had any record labels interested in releasing a Cd/Lp for you?

GREY: Kreation, a local label, will be putting out a vinyl release of our upcoming recording which will be done by Randall Dunn. We've had some other interests, but nothing serious.

8. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: You did a mini tour last year with Ludicra and Aldeberan that brought you to California ...and other places in the west united states... what was that like... what was the worst and best show you think you had while on tour?

GREY: We did a mini West Coast tour with Keen of the Crow, Aldebaran, and Ludicra. Tour was amazing. We met some really cool people and played with good bands along the way. Our tour mates are like our brothers and sisters now. And response was really positive.

9. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What did you think about the show you played at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood California... did you find the scene in California different than what you are used to seeing when playing back home... can we expect you to play in California again in the near future?

GREY: The Knitting Factory shows slayed. Great sound, we played the small room so it was intimate. The scene was relatively the samecool, laid back people into the heavy. The entire West Coast scene is kind of similar. We will play California again, but right now we are staying close to home, concentrating on recording, and getting ready for the Emissions from the Monolith festival taking place in Youngstown Ohio in May.

10.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Seeing you play live was amazing... when playing live your drummer plays With his back to the audience ... why such way of playing?

GREY: It's comfortable for us, feels like we're at practice.
11. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Not many bands out there play your style of music... is it easier or harder to play slow, midpaced heaviness or fast and brutal stuff?

GREY: We've actually always played slow heavy music because it's what comes natural to us.

12. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any merchandise available to the public? (list items and prices , and how to get stuff)

GREY: Merch will be available on www.zionsgate.com , including our forthcoming vinly release on Kreation Records. We have some shirts you can check out on our website www.greydoom.com ....link into the photobucket account. The Stand Before DooM Demo can be downloaded for free on MaySpace. www.myspace.com/greydoom

13. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any last words, comments? thanks for the interview...

Hailz to the people who keep the DooM scene alive and to all the bands in the Pacific Northwest.Keep it GriM.
