MEPHISTO interview for Dark Recollections 'zine

1.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: for those not familiar with the necromaniac entity known as MEPHISTO give us a brief band bio.
MANTH: MEPHISTO was born in the summer 2003 founded by Manth and Zin. In the September 2003, Huntor joined the band as drummer; this formation began to create the songs. In the October 2003, Hurne joined the band too as bass player. In the April 2004 we released our first demo �Tyrant�s Return�. In the June 2004, Nefastus joined the band as a second guitar and took part to the recording of �metal of death� full length.

2.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Introduce current necromaniacs in service of MEPHISTO...(band members) who does what, plays what instruments, etc...

MANTH: The band is formed by me, Manth: vocals (I have founded and have been playing for over ten years in a black metal band called TRIUMPHATOR),
Hurne: bass and guitars (who have founded with me the TRIUMPHATOR),
Zin: bass, guitars and backing vocals (who also plays in MALVENTO, a black metal band, and for a short time also in TRIUMPHATOR),
Nefastus: guitars and drums (from PRIMITIVUM another black metal band from my area),
Huntor: drums and guitars.

3. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Who came up with the name MEPHISTO and why was the name chosen?

MANTH: A really simple story. While we had been looking for a band name, I found one of the last rehearsal tape of my old band TRIUMPHATOR, where there was a song, a never completed song entitled MEPHISTO. I felt it as sort of �sign�, and decided to use that as the name for my new band.

4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: what has MEPHISTO released so far... (demos, eps, etc) and what has been response been like to each of your releases?

MANTH: This is a list of our releases so far:
04/2004 �Tyrant�s Return� our first demo released in 133 copies and now sold out.
06/2004 �Tyrant�s Return� re-release Slaughter�s cover �Fuck of death� as bonus track.
08/2004 �too Loud for the Hell - Reh. Tape� a compilation of rehearsal tracks. This tape was spread for free to all the people who have asked us, and now is available for downloads, with the full artwork, through our site: www.metalofdeath.com
07/2005 �metal of death� our first full length.
I think that the response received with our releases is more positive than we expect. We have received many good reviews around the world, and the most important thing many people ask us new stuffs from MEPHISTO.

5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Talk about your debut Cd "Metal of Death" on Bestial Burst Records...

Its our debut release for Bestial Burst Records from Finland...In few word �metal of death�
is old school for the sound.
By the songs it is like a trip through extreme metal of eighties.







6. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: How did the deal with Bestial Burst come about?

MANTH: I sent a promo to Bestial Burst, then I received a positive response from Sami. We found an agreement for a full length, and returned in the studio to record the tracks for the full length. The promo I sent to Sami is actually the first four tracks of �metal of death�.

7.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Can we expect a vinyl release of "metal of death" ?

MANTH: Actually not at the monent. But soon we will do a re-release of �Tyrant�s Return� as 12� with some bonus tracks.

8. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is the song "prophecy of destruction" about... what inspired its lyrics?

MANTH: This song talks about a prophecy that predicts the end of world and time, when Angel and Demon summon all the beasts to complete the destruction. I don�t remember a source of inspiration for this lyrics, but I think that this idea was born during last year, in which I read many books dealing with ancient prophecies.

9.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Have there been any necromaniac live rituals (live shows) what can anyone expect at your shows how does the crowd react to your music?

MANTH: Till now, we have never played live and don�t plan any gigs.

10.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: what is the scene like where you live... any bands you recommend checking out?

MANTH: Besides TRIUMPHATOR, MALVENTUM and PRIMITIVM ,(Editor ...MORTUARY DRAPE, LEGION OF DARKNESS, OPERA IX, CADAVERIA, and NEFARIUM are killer Italian bands) I don�t think there is much of an Italian scene. I don�t like it.

11. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: not many bands nowadays play your style of music... what inspired to play this music?

MANTH: Easy to say, we follow only our pleasure in playing metal in his true and primitive form. We don�t have a �philosophical� path, just we like to meet, drink beer and play the music we like.
