LEGION OF DARKNESS interview for Dark Recollections 'zine

Interview answered by LORD INFERUS/FLAGELLUM

1. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: When did LEGION OF DARKNESS come into existance...

Lord Inferos: Legion of Darkness born during the year 2001, after the end of some black metal projects created by me and Flagellum. At the beginning we wanted to play a traditional form of old style black metal, but after the first demo our work move to a different point of view about lyrics, now based on pagan suggestions, and music, now rich of evocative and epic moments, marked also by acoustic parts, by the presence of other instruments, as piano, violin and by more choirs.

2. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Introduce band members... who does what, plays what instruments?

LEGION OF DARKNESS line up: (from left to right)Lord Inferus: Pagan Poetry, clean and grim vox, Flagellum : all guitars and clean back up vox, Sir Adranor: bass, Oengus: drumsFlagellum: The current line-up is formed by four members; Lord Inferos to the lead vocal , me, Flagellum to the guitars, Adranor to the bass and Oengus to the drums. At the beginning the composition of the songs and their arrangement were done by me and Lord Inferos but now we can't consider Legion of Darkness still as a two man band and then some ideas and hints by Adranor and Oengus have the same importance almost for what about the musical parts of their instruments and their personal way of playing them.

3. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: How long has current line up been together... is this the original line up?

Flagellum: No, it is not. The original line-up is formed by me and Lord Inferos. We formed Legion of Darkness as a two man band, but this situation was negative for what about the live performance And we were tired of the drum machine.

4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Was it hard finding the right persons for what you envisioned LEGION OF DARKNESS to be?

Flagellum: Yes, me and Lord Inferos employed three years for recruiting the other members. It was hard to find the right persons that believe in this kind of art. Luckily we founded two good musicians that completed the band as well as possible.

5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What has LEGION OF DARKNESS released prior to debut Cd.. and what kind of response did they receive?(demos, Eps)

Lord Inferos: We have released two demos before "Cantus", the first had a very little distribution and few reviews, the second was well acclaimed by the Italian underground scene.

6. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Talk about your debut Cd "Cantus"

LEGION OF DARKNESS *Cantus* Cd out now!!!Lord Inferos: to quote from our biography: "The composition 's phase of the new songs has tied the band for almost an year. every songs has received an attention and an almost maniacal care, because, in our opinion, if you want to explain yourself better, you need to take care to succeed in "trapping" your essence in the succession of the notes, and sure it is not a simple work.
We could say that, in this work , we have tried to analyze and to conjugate the man's desire of trascendence, in solar and pagan sense, with more earthly and moon feelings that are inevitably placed in front of our path.".

7. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Can we expect a vinyl release of "Cantus" in the near future?
We are not sure that in the future this can be possible but we hope that this could become reality.

8. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is the scene like where you live... any bands you recommend checking out?
Lord Inferos: Yes, we recommend: Heruka, Aspera Mundis, Malntt, Hesperia, Death Dies, Infernal Angels, Throne Of Molok, Haemophagus.

9. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What are some of the bands that you've been listening to lately?

We listened to Natt from turkey, Bethor, Ratsel, Infernal Angels, various metal underground, old heavy metal release. and old electronic music.

10. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is the song "Shadows Over Parnassus" about... what inspired its lyrics?

"Shadows Over Parnassus" is inspired by greek mythology and it's dedicated to the searching of the ancient values, now forgotten. The lyric is very hermetic and, through symbolism, suggestive visions, words and metaphors, remind to an archaic concept of the man.

11. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any plans to play live... what can anyone expect at a live show?

Yes, we want to play live shows, we think that the concerts are very important for a metal band.

12. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any merchandise available from the band? (list items and prices)

None, actually only "Cantus" is available, the price is ten euros plus expedition cost.

13. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Last words, comments? thanks for the interview...
