SATHANAS interview for Dark Recollections 'zine

Interview answered by Paul

1.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: when did the infernal entity knows as SATHANAS come to existance?

PAUL: formed in 88. released a demo titled ripping evil. only did few shows before spliting up in late 89.

2. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Introduce Sathanas' warriors who does what plays what instruments?

PAUL: our line now is Paul tucker-guitars, vocals,
Bill Davidson-bass, vocals,
and ex Acheron drummer Jim Strauss.

3. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Sathanas seemed to be on a hiatus for some time... what made you bring back SATHANAS back to life?

PAUL: just having a great linup now really helps. bill has been in the band for years. but since jim came on things been moving fast. plus we work on songs together and all put our ideas together. plus having label like Pulverised records is a plus they are behind Sathanas.

4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: SATHANAS has released various Cds over its existance... what has the response been like for each Cd?

PAUL: for our first Cd " Armies of charon" things were slow. got some good reviews. people liked the raw recording and oldschool style that cd offered. but we didnt have the promotion it needed. other Cds like " Thy Dark Heavens" and "Blackearth" released by Blackmetal.com did well. once again unless people looked up the site. they didnt know about the cds. Drakkar prod. promoted the Cruentus Diabolis cd well. they had adds for the release. its a long process. but seems to be getting better with each release. Pulverised records have been pushing this cd. in zines ect. we are pleased so far.

5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Talk about your latest Cd "Entering the Diabolical Trinity" ...

SATHANAS *Entering the Diabolical Trinity* out now on Pulverized RecordsPAUL: i wanted to release a cd that had all the styles of Sathanas in it. Black metal with some death metal influence, but still holding on to the oldschool thrash we are known for. something alot of bands lostover the years. which makes the music more driving in my opinion. i also throw curves here and there with some melodic parts. but nothing to boring.

6. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is the song "Triumph of Darkness" about... what inspired its lyrics?

PAUL: the rise of Darkness and evil. and how Satan shall rule this world and beyond. !!!

7. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Who did the artwork for "Entering the Diabolical Trinity" ?

PAUL: i got in contact with Juan Castellano of spain. i seen his work he did on the Vomitory second cd. i was interested in him doing the cover for entering. he did a fucking great job.. we will be using him in the future. awesome art!!!

8 DARK RECOLLECTIONS: There is a full length album that was recorded that hasn't been released yet... talk about this album... would it ever be released?

PAUL: well. if you mean the Hex nefarious Cd. we recorded that in 2001. that was delayed but will be released this year through Death to Mankind records of spain. get in contact with them. i believe the cd is getting pressed soon.

9. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What has it been like to be around for so long... see so many bands come and go and still be around after all those years?

PAUL: I enjoy it or I wouldn't still be doing it. Ithink it helps also having a cult following. and to have a new Cd out that is actually getting the promotion it deserves after all these years. fans of Sathanas are more excited about it. I think it worked for the best. its kind of like we been in a coma and now we have been awakened!!

10.DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Have you had any offers from record labels to release "Entering the Diabolical Trinity" on black gold(vinyl)?

PAUL: Iron pegasus records are releasing it on limited green vinyl around march. watch for that. it will contain cover of celtic frost. retun to the eve. also reh. tracks of Sathanas and jaws of satan!!! with limited cover done by kris verwimp.

11. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is your opinion of today's so called black metal scene... any bands you like... dislike... local bands you recommend checking out?

PAUL: well in our area the black, death metal is not too well known. towards pittsburgh you can hear some good bands like Leprosy,First day dead, and other direction you get nunslaughter, somnus, and Incantation a few hours away. Blacktrinity also from ohio are very good. so many bands to little time.

12. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Have there been any offers for SATHANAS to tour out of the states... perhaps a U.S.A , or European tour?

PAUL: we have alot of offers. just trying to get the time setup for us to go. we are trying to play the metal maniacs fest in germany in june. we plan some shows in holland also. we will have more info on this at our site soon. watch for it.

13. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any last words, comments? Thanks for the interview....
