ANAEL interview for Dark Recollections 'zine

Interview answered by SEPHARACK
1. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: When did the dark entity known as ANAEL come to existence?

SEPHARACK: ANAEL was founded at the time of winter solstice 1999 by Primeumathon and me.

2. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Introduce the different band members... who does what, plays what instruments?

SEPHARACK: Well, first of all there's Primeumathon, playing the drums, taking care of the merchandise and most of the finacial things in general. He's kind of a silent guy and most people make the mistake to underrate him a bit, in fact he's the heart of the band. Then there is Angel Of Doom, our new and old bassplayer, busy with loads of things like doing studiowork and playing in other bands and projects. He's quite a talented musician in many styles and on many instruments, and a long-time comrad and friend since the beginning. Chris, our new guitarist, he's quite a busy guy too, writing for two zines and doing his band Hellish Crossfire. We knew him for quite a while, so when Pri supposed him for the vacant position it was quite clear that this would be a very good solution. A great guy to party with and a beast on stage. And at last there is me, Seraphackh, the singer and guitarist, writing more than half of the music and all the lyrics, being always late, thinking (and sometimes drinking) too much, trying always to find new ways for us ... I'm not good at describing myself.

3.. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: How did the different members meet, and how hard was it to find the right members to fit what you envisioned ANAEL to be?

SEPHARACK: It is always hard to find people who share the same passion and are able to maintain it over many years. I met Pri during our time of civil service at a hospital and we were both interested in similar music, so fate took it's toll. The two other guys were people we knew from concerts, and we thought them to be great musicans and great people in general.

4. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Who came up with the name ANAEL... where there any other names that might have been used had you not chosen ANAEL?

SEPHARACK: I came up with the name and, no, there was no other choice - it sounded good so we took it!

5. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Talk about your latest Cd "On Wings of Mercury"...

SEPHARACK: It is our second album for Barbarian Wrath Records... it has been released on vinyl by Iron Tyrant Records from Italy... and it's fucking great in my opinion, give it a few spins and you'll know what I mean!

6. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: This is your second Cd released with Barbarian Wrath Records... what has it been like to work with them?

SEPHARACK: They do what is possible for them to support their bands, of course they haven't billions of Euros to spend, but they helped us a lot!

7. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What is the song "A Storm From The Past" about ... and what inspired it?

SEPHARACK: It is inspired by the Egyptian god Seth and an invocation of him.

8. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Have you done any touring outside of Germany... what are some of the bands that you have played with?

SEPHARACK: Check the tour-section on our website! We have played a couple of European countries, some others will follow in late 2006! We played with bands like Abigail, Atanatos, Buried God, Destryer 666, Eminenz, Excoriate, Fall of Serenity, Fatal Embrace, Grand Belial's Key, Impending Doom, Kaamos, Melechesh, Morrigan, Mortuary Drape, Negura Bunget, Opera IX, Orlog, Paria, Pentacle, Perditor, Recapture, Thornesbreed, Trimonium, Thargos, Urgehal, Zarathustra and many more ...

9. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any chance that ANAEL would ever play in the U.S.A?

SEPHARACK: If there's a serious offer and a chance to pull a decent crowd we would play even at the south pole, so why not the US?!

10. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: What kind of response did your debut Cd "Necromantic Rituals "receive from the metal underground?

SEPHARACK: Very good reactions
most people liked it
most saw it as a successor of Samael's "Worship Him" album.... !!

11 DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Is there anything you wish you could do over on that album.. or are you satisified with the way it came out?

SEPHARACK:It is a perfect monument for the time when we recorded it, no need to change anything.

12. DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Who did the artwork for "On Wings of Mercury" ?

SEPHARACK: Pepe, of Azraeldesign, did the artwork. It was his first experience to do a project like that, but I thought his style would fit perfectly to the music and lyrics of the album.

13 DARK RECOLLECTIONS: Any last words, comments? thanks for the interview...

SEPHARACK: No problem, mate! Keep the black flame burning!
