Unit Movement
All units move vertically and horizontally but not
diagonally on the map.
Unit "Speed"
Every unit has a budget of speed (movement) point which it can use
during one turn. Each move from one square to the next
"costs" the unit a number of these points until the
budget is depleted (although of course units are not required to
move the full distance). The cost for moving from one square to
the next is determined by the terrain of the square, by roads
or railroads that might be available, by changes in elevation
and by some other square properties (such as bridges).
Example: Unit A has a budget of 6 for movement in one
turn. If the cost for moving on grassland terrain is 2 then the
unit could advance three squares before it is out of moves (see
example on the right).
Locked Terrain
Not all units can travel on all terrain types. Each scenario
has its own unit types defined and this definition includes the
terrain types that can be used by the unit. A ship would of
course only be able to access water squares. A tracked vehicle
is land-bound but might have some additional capabilities (such
as moving in shallow water). Look in the scenario descriptions
to find out what units are available for a game and what terrain
they are able to access.
