Objectives

The objective of this web site is to document and accompany the creation of a PBeM-Engine for the use at Yahoo! and other web-space providers. Therefore the ultimate goal is to provide all members with an application that enables them to run their own PBeM games at their own sites with their own scenarios, maps, terrain, units, ... .

For this purpose, a number of games will be run in an extended beta-test in 2004 for which we still require players. If you are interested  Select the green menus (right) to learn more about the Engine of click the "Membership" button on the left to find out how to join.

Although still a bit shaky at this point, a preliminary schedule has been set up for the completion of the application:

  • 01/12/2003 - Discussion group opens
  • 15/01/2004 - Final version of instructions / rules for beta tests published

  • 10/02/2004 - Pre-beta-games begin (number of games determined by amount of members, approx. 10 moves / 20 days)
  • 01/03/2004 - Game results, bugs, corrections and suggestions tabulated

Using this Site

Until the 15th of January 2004, when this site will be completed for the first beta-campaigns, all content and links are subject to change. Linked pages are highlighted in blue showing which menu items in the left and right sidebars are available. Instruction and rules will be added until mid January but are placed online as early as possible to invite comments and suggestions.

Game Instructions

For the duration of the test games, all game instructions are grouped into three areas on the sidebars.

How to Play (blue)

A group of pages in a top-to-down order explaining the general game concept, administrative steps (i.e. signing in and submitting unit orders) and key concepts such as moving units or issuing fire commands.

Concepts (yellow)

An alphabetical list by subject of all game concepts and rules.

Learning by Example (pink)

A number of pages examining specific situations or tasks showing how the game concepts interact.

Participation

In order to test the PBeM modules which have been created (and those that still need to be written), we are looking for volunteers to participate in a number of games beginning January 2004. If after reading through the sections on this site, you would like to participate in creating and debugging the engine, click the "Membership" menu on the left and follow the instructions to sign on.
