REJECTION

She searched for many years, baby that was born
To her it was more than that, didn't see her for long.
She held her close to her, gazed into her eyes
Overwhelmed with tears, she kissed her good-bye.

Grief stricken birthmother, heart ripped away
Knowing what she had to do, died on that day.
Hers was a selfless act, giving her a better life
To strangers she didn't know, husband and wife.

She had nothing to offer, her love wasn't enough
So she did the next best thing, offered her up.
They raised her, loved her, as both parents should
Gave her what she needed, knowing that they could.

She was told not to find her, legal document she signed
Didn't understand it's meaning, she was young at the time.
As she grew older, understood what had taken place
Time to find her baby, missing link to her past, erased.

After all the years of searching, telephone did ring
Daughter she searched for, found her in the Spring.
They met for the first time, exchanging hugs and tears
Catching up on their lives, photograghs they shared.

Suddenly, without warning, not a single word since then
No contact, no phone calls, no letters ever sent.
Birthmother felt rejected, never knew the reasons why
Daughter couldn't understand, why she committed suicide.

There are no books, no pamphlets, material to read
No simple instructions, guidelines from A to Z.
No one to talk to, no one really understands
How it feels to be rejected, to let go once again.
