It Hurts Sometimes

Sound of rain upon my roof,
it's another lonely day
Rocking in my maple wood,
back and forth it sways.
Thinking 'bout the years gone by,
time has slipped away
It hurts sometimes to travel there,
memory is getting vague.

I think of all the roads traveled,
what my eyes have seen
All the loves that touched my life,
what each one did mean.
I think of all the hurt I've felt,
such pain it caused my heart
All the tears that I did shed,
the grieving at graveyards.

I think of friends, my family,
gone too soon from me
All the happiness they've given,
all the days between.
I think of the many sacrifices,
crosses I did bear
Sound of laughter, stories told,
memories I once shared.

I think about my children,
the joy of motherhood
Seed of life now planted,
how each one understood.
Building blocks I gave them,
now with families of their own
Blessed me with grandchildren,
rewards for what I've sown.

I think about the rainbows,
pot of gold at the end
Snow-capped mountain top,
cool breezes in the wind.
It hurts sometimes to travel there,
I'm dying, as you see
My life has come full circle,
my life is now complete.
