"WHOSE CHILD AM I"

He was found in an empty apple basket,
she in a green garbage bag
Twins were left in the back seat,
crying in a dirty yellow cab.
Left on the doorstep of a parish Church,
priest baptizing chosen name
Sanitation crews find them abandoned,
shivering and cold from the rain.

Some wrapped in old newspapers,
inside infested trash bins
Preemie found in a tomato box,
price of a young girls' innocence.
Some were left with a remembrance,
only clue to their identity
Teddy bear, tarnished cross,
old photograph,
set of worn out rosary beads.

Malnourished, dirty diaper,
empty bottle stained from curdled milk
Intensive care for dehydration,
treatments for laying in their own filth.
These are the birthdays they will remember,
stories told them from long ago
How they fought and struggled for survival,
Heavens angelic miracles.

We are the babies of Lost and Found,
orphans and foster homes
Adopted by families because we didn't
have a place to call our own.
The Lord sent HIS angels,
their mission, was to keep an eye on us
Wrapped in the love
of prayerful wings,
spirits of a snow white dove.

We ask you whose child am I,
do you know where we belong
Searching for our birthmothers,
reasons be it right or wrong.
Compassion and love is all we know,
raised by HIS guiding hand
If you have ever walked in our shoes,
only then can you understand.
