ALL I ASK

I am a mermaid,
not so different than you
Woman, half-scanty,
half-fish, with fins too.
Upper body, like petals,
delicate to the touch
Bottom torso, very scaly,
slimy and rough.

I am not mythological,
nor fantasy, by far
Keeper of sunken ships,
treasures from afar.
Burial floor of memories,
secrets entrusted to keep
Come along on my journey,
and listen to my plea.

Neptune, my Roman God,
abandoned me
Mother of Pearl,
she passed away, died recently.
Siblings are all scattered,
from parted Red Sea
Loneliness, and suffering,
longing for my family.

Sitting on the rocks,
the Great Barrier Reef
Basking in the sun,
waiting oh! so patiently.
Kelp and algea,
plant life keeps me alive
Bubbles follow me,
salty tears from my eyes.

Clams, lobster, scallops,
and schools of fish
Many friends I do have,
siblings, I do miss.
However, if by chance,
you find chicken of the sea
All I ask, you tell them,
been searching many leagues.
