HOW DOES ONE MEASURE?

Is it the pain in labor, giving birth to new life
Or the hurt of a passing, when you say a good-bye.
How does one measure, feelings that you bear
Weighted down so heavily, in terms of despair?

Shades of remembrances, canvassed in frames
Like a Rembrandt, Picasso, painters of fame.
Captured colored photos, lens of eyes, you keep
Sentimental journey, as you fall fast asleep.

Watching repeatedly, tapes stored safely away
Like a video camera, pressing on instant replay.
Deep in memory, like seeded grapes on a vine
Planted forevermore, as they all intertwine.

How does one measure, does time heal the wounds
Grief and sadness, tucked away in sorted rooms?
Loss of a child, parent, part of you, they took away
The emptiness, bitter sorrow, unsweetened serenade.

In the attic, you'll find, hidden treasures you seek
Private collections, all of your priceless antiques.
How does one measure, the one you hold dear
Or the sound of cries, or the river of your tears?
