"That I May Love Again"

Look into my eyes,
welcome to my world
Hoping for a family,
orphaned little girl.
The color of my skin,
shape of my eyes
Accept me for who I am,
help me to survive.

American, Vietnamese,
Chinese, and Korean
Native Indian, Spanish,
Mexican, Afro American.
All Nationalities, mixed races,
religious beliefs
Do you have an open heart,
forever, will you keep?

I often wondered, to myself,
when I'm all alone
How did I come to this place,
taken from my own.
Court custody, Ward of State,
Welfare, or D.S.S.
They told me it's for the better,
in my best interest.

Living from place to place,
thrown away, I feel
Stabilized family,
is my only heartfelt appeal.
Promise to behave myself,
school I will attend
Learning all my ABC's,
making new found friends.

Help me to build a better life,
put me on your knee
Read me all those story books,
mystery and fantasy.
Take away the pain I feel,
sadness from my eyes
You can turn my world around,
keep me at your side.

How can I ever tell you,
is my smile enough for you
Say the words I long to hear,
tell me that they're true.
Do you have what it takes,
compassion in your soul
Raising another mothers' child,
heart will surely know.

If you take me in your home,
please don't ever be cruel
I've been locked in darkness,
was starved and so abused.
Show me all the colorful rainbows,
pot of gold at the end
Teach and guide me, till I know,
that I may love again.
