YOUR FINAL WISHES

You wanted to die at home,
in your very own bed
Your children promised,
did their own hospice instead.
They didn't have instructions,
tried everything they could
Fed you all the foods,
they thought was for your own good.

You were bathed and changed,
powdered and puffed
Treated like a queen,
until you no longer could get up.
Room was decorated with photos,
to remind you of them
Angels in every shape, color,
there must have been over ten.

Fresh cut flowers on the night table,
you would smell
Soft, fragrant perfumes,
were placed next to your bell.
Holidays were so special,
you were still here with them
It was sad to watch you,
as you were getting so thin.

Many months had passed,
not once did you complain
Nor did you ask for medication,
for any of your pain.
Determined to teach them,
lessons of courage and faith
Your children came first,
while on your deathbed,
you laid.

Children at your bedside,
you took your last breath
Into God's loving arms,
to your eternal place of rest.
Your tribute, your memorial,
was just as you wished
Before they closed the casket,
they all gave you a kiss.

I knew you were there,
you watched us and heard
Even the poem I wrote you,
each and every word.
These were your final wishes,
carried out with dignity
Now you're our Mother angel,
watching over you and me.
