THERE ARE REASONS
As I knelt here one day,
and prayed to my Lord
That someday I would see,
birthson I had lost.
Then a few days later,
still hard to believe
We spoke on the phone,
he was searching for me.
Months have passed, no more words from him
Thought to myself,
will we ever meet again?
Was it something I said,
was it something I did
Assuming answers to questions,
to function and live.
Then it came to me,
never thought this before
There's a reason for everything,
we do, say, and more.
Birthmothers are so special,
we were chosen by HIM
To give our babies,
to couples of barren women.
Without us there wouldn't be,
talent in your life
Poets, playwrights,
bringing tears to your eyes.
There wouldn't be actors,
actresses, on the stage
Comedians who bring laughter,
brightening your day.
There wouldn't be writers,
lyrics, singers of romance
To fill your heart with love,
cheek-to-cheek as you dance.
There wouldn't be First Lady,
who was in the White House
Giving of herself, to her wheelchair-bound spouse.
There wouldn't be figure skaters,
champions, athletes
Olympics every year,
as you watch them on TV.
There wouldn't be inventors,
artists who paint exquisitely
President, opera singers,
great men of philosophy.
There are reasons we are born,
reasons that we die
Reasons we are here,
written in the Book of Life.
Our path is not to question,
the roads we do take
Take a stand, be steadfast,
believe in your Faith.
Birthmother, Blessed Mary,
Holy Spirit came upon
She delivered, relinquished,
Son that was born.
She knows all the suffering,
grief and despair
Day she watched her Son,
on a cross, HE died there.
Conceiving this new notion,
in the Bible it reads
HE holds the power,
key to our future destiny.
I believe, we birthmothers,
as well as adoptees
Are the angels in disguise,
chosen very wisely.
