NEVER AGAIN

We all have dreams of what is to come
When troops from our City come home, one by one.
Crowds cheering singing patriotic songs
Thousands of flags with yellow ribbon waving on.

Men and women who fought for their lives
March down Merrimack Street, side by side.
Air Force, Navy, Army and Marine
Hope it comes true and not only a dream.

We decorated our home with yellow ribbon and a flag
Had a feeling one day it would fly at half-staff.
The casualties of war soon will be here
Family and friends must now prepare.

For a chaplain and Marine in full dress uniform
Sadly tell us how brave they were in Desert Storm.
A hero's welcome they will receive
As we all pray on bended knees.

Caskets draped with an American flag
And the flag at our home now flies at half-staff.
A full dressed military service was performed
No crowds cheering, singing patriotic songs, no
flags with yellow ribbon waving on.

Bereaved families stricken with grief
Lay their loved one in a place of peace.
Twenty-one gun salute echoes in the wind
"Taps" played on, as I whisper "Dear God, Never Again."
