PAVING THE WAY

This letter is for little Tommy
and baby on the way
Just a few short lines to tell
you why daddy went away.
You see, up here in heaven,
it's a great, great, big estate
Streets and sidewalks all
lead to this tall white pearly gate.

The angels would rather play than work
and made an angelic mess
God, the Father,
knew somehow that
I was the very best.
He called me up to do the job,
who was I to disagree
Instead of a paycheck,
He promised to look after
nana, papa, and wife, Lee.

He showed me all the potholes
the little cherub angels made
They can no longer use the
streets and sidewalks,
no longer can they play.
Daddy has a lot of work,
it's going to take some time
Forgive me if I don't write again,
you'll always be on my mind.

If you hear a thunderous
sound in the sky above
It's only daddy driving in his new,
Machado payload truck.
Time for me to go to work,
the clock has just struck nine
Remember you belong to me,
and new baby, mine.

When you go to bed at night,
I've asked the angels please
Keep an eye on my little son,
and new baby for me.
Someday when you grow old,
I know you'll come to see
New streets and sidewalks daddy paved,
just for you, baby, and Lee.

In memory of a fine, young man I had the pleasure of knowing.
God bless you Tommy
