PMA Magic Auction – Saturday, February 10, 2:00 P.M. at Trouble-Free Plumbing and Heating, 802 Willow St., Pekin. The club receives 10% of the sales. Set-up for sellers is at 1:30 p.m. Buyers pick up a bid number at the auction table. You are encouraged to bring any magic magazines, DVD’s, videos or books that you may want to sell as well as magic. Last Month:

Bill Abbott Lecture, Sunday, January 21 – Bill demonstrated his Zombie-like effect The Thing where a blue cloth placed over a clear plastic box forms a ball shape and rises from the box and dances about. Holding the clear box during the effect was member David Osborn’s son. The cloth was then shown empty on both sides to conclude the effect. Bill also performed and explained a Multiplying Sponge Balls from Mouth effect, a Card to Wallet effect, an Ashes on Palm effect (using black eyeshadow) and his comedy routine involving Chico, a stuffed monkey who divines a selected card, chosen by Paul Buob. Assisting in the effects were the two sons of guest, Karl Neibhur. Bill is from Toronto. The lecture was held at the Holiday Inn Express in Pekin.

Club Banquet, Sunday, January 28, Grecian Gardens, Chillicothe – Once again members and family gathered for a wonderful meal at Grecian Gardens choosing from steak, chicken or fish. For the evening’s entertainment, Gordon Snow performed with the help of world-renown magical assistant Rene, who was, as usual, running a little late. Rene wore a lovely purple dress with butterfly tattoos on her arm and chest (and had an uncanny resemblance to member Grant Golden). The two performed a magical show where everything just kept going wrong. First, Gordon’s appearing pole sprung out of the bottom of the brown paper sack instead of the top, as the bag fell apart at the bottom. During the 20^th Century silks, Gordon stuffed a couple silks in an opportune location on the front of Rene and vanished a silk, only to have a huge pink bra appear between the two original silks instead of the vanished one. In the big finale, Rene held a Drawer Box while Gordon showed it empty and did his magic. This time everything appeared all right as a timid white bunny popped out of the box. Unfortunately, while holding the rabbit, Rene discovered several hard brown pieces had magically appeared in her hand. Gordon decided to make the best of a bad situation and popped them in his mouth for a tasty snack! The show concluded with a thunderous round of applause for Gordon and his not-so-lovely assistant. Well, maybe the last part was embellished a little.
