ERIC BUSS (Click Here For Web site!)

ABOUT THE LECTURE:

Eric's lecture is a true reflection of his personality and his act. After performing a few of his signature comedy routines, he begins the lecture. It is filled with improvisation exercises, body warm-ups and audience participation acting lessons, and is bound to be a huge success in magic clubs and conventions across the country!  Why learn another magic trick when you can learn to make the tricks you currently perform better? Why sit through another passive lecture when you can participate in an active one?  This will not be another "I'm the lecturer, you're the pupils- be quiet as I explain" type of lecture. This is a hands-on rehearsal session that gets everyone involved with the action.  Simple yet effective performing and creativity-inspiring techniques will be taught and applied to magic. Music is used during the lecture both as inspiration and as explanation. Audience members will be asked (or forced) to stretch their bodies and vocal cords, make funny faces and weird noises, and even do some performing.  Participants will learn while watching their friends perform.  Above all, it is a relaxed and friendly magic-themed environment everyone can use to ask questions, try something new, and take some risks, while having a blast learning about how to enhance their magic performances and stage personas.

ABOUT THE LECTURER:

Hollywood, CA- International award-winning magician, Eric Buss, has entertained and enthralled audiences worldwide with his innovative and distinctive brand of comedy magic characterized by his uncanny sense of wit, whimsy, illusion and fun, best described as "MAGIC gone WILD."   Many have commented that Eric's one-man show seems as if it was conceived by a hyperactive child. And it was. He eschews the classical magic props like top hats, magic wands, and silk scarves, and instead has taken a more unconventional route utilizing pogo sticks, wigs, and Barbie dolls to bring his magic to life. Although most agree that Eric's props are totally awesome, it is his comedic ability and wacky personality that win audiences over.  Eric has performed on five continents, and on the PAX Television Network special, "Masters of Illusion." He has shared the stage with William Shatner at the world renowned "Just for Laughs" Comedy Festival in Montreal, and made a command performance for the Royal Family of Monaco at their annual International Magic Gala.  He has been praised by some of the top magic associations and publications for creating "one of the most original acts in magic."

Eric's professional career in magic began at the age of 20 when he won the "Stage Champion of the Year" award at the 1995 World Convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Although this was his first national competition, the response to his act was so overwhelming the budding magician knew he had found a niche, a career, and scored a shiny trophy! A few years later Eric won another shiny statue when the International Magicians Society named him "Cabaret Magician of the Year."

A native of Arizona, Eric majored in acting and theatre at Northern Arizona University from 1993-1997. He appeared in many stage productions and also served as special effects consultant for numerous plays. Eric was also a performer and director of the acclaimed improvisational troupe "NAUghty Bits." Since moving to Los Angeles in 1998, Eric has performed in numerous independent films and continues to enjoy film and stage acting. He credits his theatrical and improvisational training with helping him to develop his award- winning character and routines.

Eric has a great record for "wowing" audiences. Fans sometimes say to him after the show, "You're the best magician I have ever seen!" He usually responds by saying, "Thanks mom!"

Last Meeting: PMA Picnic, Sunday, August 24, 2003

On a very warm evening a group of almost 40 people, club members and their families, joined together for our annual picnic.  The meal was potluck with the main course of fried chicken and drinks provided by the club.  There were tasty side dishes and desserts to complement the meal.  Door prizes were given out through a drawing and included coffee mugs, novelty magic tricks like the coin drawer box and used magic such as match box effects and puzzle effects.  Even Dave Sheetz won a huge top hat with a picture of a can of baked beans on the outside.  It reminds some of the W.C. Fields routines we all grew to love so much.  After the drawing, there were are few after-dinner performances.  Don Yarbrough performed an excellent ring on a string routine with the string being held by two spectators.  Almost 16-year-old Mike Needham performed his version of the Leno Cut (or Multiple Card Cut using the chin).  Dave Sheetz then entertained everyone with a tortoise to hare sponge-like effect and then showed us his "pet frog" inside a big brown basket complete with funny voice.  Did Ventriloquist Doc Lowery supply the voice?  That remains a mystery!
