Last Meeting: Friday, June 6, 2003

We briefly discussed the May 3 Central Illinois Magic Get-Together and its success.  Upcoming lecture proposals were discussed with a proposed lecture to be announced for October.

Grant Golden demonstrated a mentalism effect he is performing for children's summer reading programs at area libraries.  The theme for this year's program in Illinois is "Movies and Reading."  Names of well-known children’s movies were used and were printed with five movies on each side of five jumbo laminated cards.  A movie title was mentally chosen from one of the five cards.  From the reverse sides of the five cards, the spectator is asked which card includes the thought of movie and the movie title is then revealed.  Ideas for a multiple choice quiz about the movies using humor  (in the answer choices) were discussed.

Paul Buob presented the May 3 Get-Together video of Tony Mitchell’s Fresh Fish Tear, Fish Bowl Production and Zombie routine and Jon Gallagher’s close-up sponge ball and cups and balls routine.  Both were in attendance to see their performances on tape.  After much discussion about the video highlights, those in attendance mingled around outside on a warm June night for more magic talk with their friends.

2003 Central Illinois Magic Get-Together- Saturday, May 3, 2003

On Friday, May 2, Robert Bengel, from the Atlanta area, presented an excellent workshop on card locations and coins attended by over 20 close-up enthusiasts and Bengel fans.  Robert offered several anecdotes from his experiences performing at trade shows.  All in attendance were allowed to request a personal demonstration of a coin sleight or effect by Robert.  A very enjoyable evening!

On Saturday, May 3, over 50 people attended the day’s events at Lakeview Museum including lectures by Robin Walker, John Rogers, Robert Bengel and Dan Garrett.  The close-up show included Jon Gallagher, John Rogers and Robert Bengel.  The evening show was very entertaining with a large walk-up public audience of over 200.  Highlights included Mike Stratman, IBM President performing Sidewalk Shuffle, Rick Fisher’s hilarious huge bunny vent act,  Greg Loschen’s CD and card manipulation act and illusions by Chezaday.  Chezaday also performed a cute restored tennis sneaker effect with David Taylor’s young son Bennett.
