September 18, Meeting
– Members performed card effects (Allen Broomfield), mind reading effects
(Number Cards from Greg Joyce, where a selected number is revealed using a series
of cards, and Smash and Stab from Troy Keefer, where a spectator’s hand (John Canham) is held above and then smashed down over three (of
four) styrofoam cups on cork coasters, leaving the remaining
cup not chosen with a large spike underneath), Rising Voodoo Doll on Matchbox by
Troy Keefer, and Rising Dime on Hand by Mike Tate. Fortunately, everything worked out all right
and John’s hand was left untouched. The
Rising Dime on Hand used a novel idea and was really interesting to see
performed. Mike Tate also showed how
there was a voice trying to get in the back door of the meeting room.
September 24, Club Picnic
– A good time was had by about 25 members and their family enjoying chicken
(both fried and baked), drinks and assorted side dishes brought by those
attending. Included were potato salad, a
barbeque hamburger and beans dish, peach pie, apple pie, cheese potatoes with
peppers, Gondola bread, brownies, chocolate pie and several other goodies. The picnic was held at
September 30, Richard Sanders Lecture
– A great lecture was enjoyed, featuring an awesome rope routine with 22
elements (including a version of Professor’s Nightmare and ends that move and
restore themselves), several very clever packet card effects using something
special, Slow Burn, a visual three-way bill change and some impromptu coin
effects. The best apart about the
effects is that they were easily reset, which is one of the points Richard
stressed as important for walk-around and corporate magic. In addition, they seemed relatively
straight-forward to learn but strong in performance. Richard had several DVD’s available including
one for the card routines, one for the rope routine, one for the Slow Burn bill
change, and a three-package set that seemed popular among the attendees. Afterward, a few of our members shared with
Richard an enjoyable supper next door at Kelly’s Restaurant. Richard is from

MAGICIANS ASSEMBLY
The Peoria Magicians Assembly meets the THIRD Monday of the month at Leonardo’s Pizza (Party Room), 700 E. War Memorial Dr.,Peoria, IL. The club does not meet during some months including July and August. Please consult the web site for currentinformation. Guests are invited to our meetings at no charge.
