Aldo Colombini Lecture Review  Aldo's Web site

Monday, November 15, 2004 - 7:00 P.M. - Holiday Inn Express, Pekin IL

Nearly 35 in attendance enjoyed the magic and wit of Aldo Colombini.  Aldo performed and demonstrated several effects including a rope routine called "Professor's Math" which was modeled after the classic "Professor's Nightmare."  Some very clever twists and turns and a cut and restored rope bit were included in this presentation.

Aldo also presented a wonderfully entertaining card effect involving two even piles of cards.  As cards are dealt from each pile into two new piles, a face-up card appearing in one pile coincidentally indicates the selected face-down card in the same position in the other pile, followed by a revelation of an Ace on the top of all four piles and each pile containing the same color of cards, either red or black.

An interesting effect was shown using a deck of blank-faced cards and a spectator's written name on one of the cards, later being revealed as the only card with a different-colored back.

In another effect, two spectators each punch several holes into a number of random cards.  Later, two cards are shown to have the same number of holes and the punched holes line up exactly.

In another effect, based on the "clock trick" and using blank-faced cards, a spectator is asked to name the month of their birthday and to remove that many cards from the deck.  Upon dealing cards to the number corresponding to the birth month, the spectator turns over the card to reveal "Happy Birthday" written on the blank face.

An effect was presented whereby two colored ropes (yellow and red) melted through each other while held by a spectator.  Of course, several brief humorous stories and jokes were mixed into the evening by Aldo, who grew up in Italy and now lives in California.  (Ask someone who was at the lecture, "What was the last thing Aldo's relative said before getting hit by a truck?" )

We would like to thank the many people who attended from Springfield, Normal and the Peoria area including the four young magicians and their parents.  Thank you for your support!  Also, thanks goes out to our President, Gordon Snow, for arranging for the lecture and to Aldo, for giving us a fun evening!
