LITERARY CORNER
Literary corner is intended for poetry, atleast for
now. Stuff which my friends have written have
found their way here 'coz I liked it too much to trust them to keep their
creations safe :-)
Poetry by Marisha
Before you read any of the following, I would like to
answer a question which you will indubitably ask and many have already asked
before you- "No, they are not inspired by events in my life unless
clearly specified And until you can identify yourself in any of the poems
(some of you should be able to do that) ,
consider them a reflection of my imagination. They are written as a first person
account out of choice". Arranged in the
chronologically descending order of creation, my favourites have a duck
:-) My
initial poems while in school are a more interesting and fun variety compared to
my college days which appears to be saturated with broken heart poetry (try to
guess which one's about you or someone you know ;-)) and now its more like a
contemplation on life........ hope you'll enjoy them.
- Journey into nothingness -
I was feeling suspended in animation, a theory in contradictions, living in
oxymorons! I have nothing to write about this one __ Feb '08

- The Girl Child -
Cannot figure out why the girl child is killed, especially in affluent areas
and more so when the sons leave their old parents and settle in America. The
excuse of dowry is rather outdated considering that girls are successful
career women capable of meeting the financial requirements of any family
through their own earnings __ Dec '07
- A morbid fascination and
Amnesia of the Soul - I am not too sure about putting this poem up
for public consumption. Its a confusing and morbidly fascinating matter for
me but I don't expect everyone to share my enthusiasm on it __ Oct '07
- Haunted by a Live Dog -
I’d been pining to pen down rhymes for three years since my last poem in
September 2004. Nothing was happening and suddenly all my frustration boiled
out of me of Dusshera day and I found the solution within my own poem (the
lime with ***). I hope to be able write many more in the near future now
that I’ve broken the invisible barrier__ Oct '07
- Ocean
of Life - Too many of my friends live too far from me....sometimes I
ponder over where we were and where we are.........*sigh*__ Sep '04

- Unshed
Tears - Someone who has not been able to cry since his/ her brother
passed away years back__ April '04

- A
Complaint - There are people out there who take advantage of you and
rudely ignore any subtle hints of inconvenience from you. Inspired by some
very irritating creatures I've met recently__ March '04
- Silent
Love - A rather foolish kind of one sided,
unrequited love which is senseless to indulge in, yet, I find many many
people trapped in it. Jassi (From "Jassi jaisi koi nahi")
is a typical idiot in love with Armaan __ March '04
- Life
Passing By - People stuck in this world with hardly anything to look
forward to and to put it in hindi.... jinki zindagi kat rahi hai. Some
find this one quite hilarious __
December '03
- Drifting
- Are we really in control of our lives?? Its a question I've asked often
and am drifting around for answers. A super favourite of mine__ September '03

- Drifting
Together - Second in the trilogy about drifting... but not alone__ September '03
- Drifting
Apart - A pretty much common phenomenon __ September '03
- Maya
- About maya in life from the intoxicating effects of love and
alcohol__ September '03
- Painful
Partings - Just trying to figure out what happens when a girlfriend
dumps her guy without any explanation__ September '03
- The
Stone Hearted Lass
- I found this poem in a remote corner of my old diaries and it was
incomplete. So I just finished it up though I don't remember in what context
I had begun it__ 1998-2003
- My Best Friends Wedding_II
- A female best friends marriage __ Feb'03
- My Best Friends Wedding_I
- A male best friends marriage, inspired by the movie of the same name __ Feb'03

- Escaping
Love - I really don't remember whom I was mourning over when I wrote that,
doesn't even sound like me! __ 1998-99
- Friends - Written for a dear friend during the last
days we spent together __ May'99
- Acquaintances and Friends
- Written for someone who
was more than an acquaintance, at the threshold of being a good friend and
we had to part :)__
May'99
- Earthquake - about earthquake and the wrath of nature
__ Dec'98

- Losing Love - about just exactly what the title says.
This one was a tehelka back in college magazine __ Dec'98

- The Rift
- When two close people fall apart __
Dec'98
- The Ultimate War - don't go by the title, the end
just might make u smile :-) __ Dec'98
- Passing Fancies - The tale of a girl who loves to
fall in love __ Dec'98
- To
an old friend I've not met yet - Written for my first and oldest email
friend__ May'98
- Literacy - More like a bilingual ballad, wrote it for
a literacy week competition maybe in 1994-5

- The
(Non) Environmental Seminar - I was a budding environmentalist back in
XIth Class. I guess I felt pretty strongly about something I must've
attended around that time to have actually rhymed it out__ 1994

- The
Scarecrow - Must've returned from a visit to my village where I must've
been fascinated by the straw man with an upturned earthen pot for a face or
I must've spent time watching The Wizard of Oz. But if it was the latter,
then I should've written on "The Tin Man" and "The Lion"
too. Whatever the reason, I like this poem for it's one of my sane ones. __
1994

- The
Sad, Bad and Mad Fads - I'd just learnt the word "fad" and it
was rhyming with so many words so I was itching to write a poem on it. Trust
me that that was pretty good reason for writing a poem, I've written poems
for worse reasons __ 1994
- Dreams
- I was experimenting with being a comic during that period so I guess I
tried my hand at trying to make my poems funny too. I hope trying to read it
is not too trying for you :-) __ 1994
- The
History Exam and the Exams History - Don't ask me why I wrote that, I
didn't even study History anymore in XIth when I wrote that... I probably
wrote the poem for the title __ 1994
- The
Rat Controversy - We'd just joined the biology section in Class XIth and
were informed that we'll have to dissect rats the next year. Me and a
couple of classmates rhymed and reasoned that dissecting rats was not as
nauseating as we thought__ 1993-94
- The
Baby with a Sweet - Probably my first ever publication in English. To
tell you the truth I was more surprised than happy when it got printed in
the school mag. I remember thinking "Gosh, this kid stuff got printed!!
Did they not have anything better submitted by anybody? Well, if this is
publishable then all my other stuff could be published too." And that
was when I was in class VIIth, a shy 12 year old who gained enough
confidence as a result of this publication that she went on writing poems
and still writes today, even if she publishes them on her own website :-) __
1989

I've got many more poems which are published, but will have to find where all
I've kept them and put them here. So keep checking for the latest and the oldest
:-)
You can also find my poems published at www.ndtv.com
. Go to Books> Poetry Corner> Search by Poet and under 'M' u'll
find me :-)
Poetry by Krishna
- Krishna,
my childhood friend or more formally, B. Harekrishna Acharya is an
Instrumentation Engineer, strongly grounded to the realities of the world as
can be seen in his writings. He has a unique out-of-the-box thinking process
which challenges the beliefs and capabilities of all he comes in contact
with. He is also the founder of "Evolve", formerly known as "antidesigners",
a solution oriented group for the problems of our India of today.
- maine kab peeche mud ke
dekha? - another
beautiful composition in hindi about the paths tread by the indomitable
spirit of India....from Krishna after a long hiatus.
- Live
Another Life
- Read
it line by line. Slowly. Stopping after every line......and then the
realization shall dawn...Give a greater gap after every para.... Happy
realization!!

- Pain
in my Brain - This poem comes with the
preface: "Krishna says to Arjuna:
"O Dhananjaya", raise ur bow and raze them all.
Dont worry, for thou shalt not have killed.
For nobody can kill, nor can anybody get killed."
Connect it to the karma in Hindu philosophy and you can perhaps just get a
hint of what the poet is talking about! This is too profound!
- Need
for God
- Imagined
World
- read
it slowly. imagine it. feel it. work up ur imagination a bit. it is written
as a narrative. and "YOU" are the central character of this poem.
He almost never wrote it. He never wanted to write such ghoulish things but
then.... it's one of the best contemporary pieces that I have enjoyed
reading..... if I were giving stars to the poems, this one definitely
qualifies for 5 stars.

- Hamare
Nanhe Kadam - a
beautiful hindi poem...... for
those who believe in dreams and in achieving them.
Puja's Poetry
- Puja Bala is a young and dynamic electronics
engineer and yet a sensitive poet having a plethora of outstanding
poems with her, I am able to share on this page only what she has given out
publicly :-)
- Heal
- it is a beautiful poem about the desire to do something in this world to
reduce pain, suffering and heal... belief in action not just talk
- On Leaving Home
- I'll always be myself
