An acquaintance is of a breed,
Of whom you’re rarely in need,
Out of sight, out of mind,
You leave them as you find.
A friend is one you need,
His advice you always heed,
His criticism shows he’s true,
To your friendship and to you.
But there are people in between,
In whose company you’re often seen,
You jest, you laugh, you talk and care,
More than an acquaintance you share.
Alas! But time being less,
Not exactly a friend, I confess,
Still, what you had, you cherish.
And memories of those shall not perish,
Not that strong a ‘friendship’ as some I knew,
Oh! I don’t think I need to tell, I’m talking about you!
