Maya

I look into its amber depths

Shimmering golden sparkles leapt

Beckoning me to lose my soul

In the enticing maya* of alcohol

My heart remembers another gold

Those golden eyes whose gaze I hold

And in a blink I lose it all

But was it not a vision to enthrall?

As I live in this mindless stupor

About me I feel her presence hover

Was it just my imagination or was that her touch?

I reach out for her but its empty air that I clutch

My drunken mind taunts my broken heart

With what I can have no more, with what I had to part

Maya**, she left me without even a goodbye

Reducing our togetherness to a painful lie?

Without her, I want now to quietly die

And all I want to ask her is "Why?"
