Ocean of Life

While I flew over the ocean- deep and blue

I met an exotic bird, I think it was you

We roosted for a while on the stony high cliff

Resting our wings, flying had made them stiff

We shared the stories of lands where we'd been

Of whom we'd met and what we'd seen

And while we interacted, we watched the sun set

We talked of reaching the sky and stars we had to get

High fliers from the sky swooped down to rest alongside

And we shared more stories with birds from far and wide

And slowly through the chatter of the night, a thread wound us all

Brought us onto one common plateau, it's friendship they call

As the twilight passed and the dawn rose to a cheery day

Some flapped wings to fly while some chirped to sleepily stay

And we flew towards our homelands with a chirp of adieu

In spite of the distance, however far we flew

The memories of that evening on the cliff so high

Are cherished and ne'er forgotten, however hard I try

My ears strain to hear from my feathered friend though I know he's far

I wonder whether we'll cross paths again?, I ask the shooting star

Every time the wind blows in from your land, to listen I strive

........whether it carries your voice to me across the ocean of life.
