Deb's Candy Cane Treats

Anything "Candy Cane" is a treat to me and mine so I've come up with two special treats that are huge favourites at our house during the holidays and they couldn’t be easier to make.

All you need is a hammer and some patience and trust me, the hammer is great for getting rid of all that Christmas shopping stress!!

You know those boxes of tiny candy canes you can buy? Well I unwrap dozens of the little guys, put them into a ziplock bag and set to work with my hammer. I smash them into dust…well actually into tiny little bits, the dust is a bonus.

First the ice cream...I take a 2 litre container of vanilla ice cream and cut it into chunks and, using a potato masher, work the candy cane remains into the ice cream. I then put it into a large plastic container and back into the freezer it goes for an hour or so.

You can buy Candy Cane Ice Cream at your grocery store but trust me when I say it is no where near as delicious as this. And the bonus is, you can add as much of the crushed candy cane as your heart desires!!

Now for the white chocolate drops! I use a bag of white chocolate bits, melt them in a bowl over boiling water and mix in the crushed candy cane. Drop it by teaspoons to a cold cookie sheet covered in wax paper and put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. These things are to die for and people think they take everso much work...I let them think that!!

One 12 oz bag makes about 6 dozen 'drops'!!! How much of the crushed candy cane to add? When you think, 'oh hell I've added too much' you're almost there! I find the best way is to taste the mixture...I know, it's a tough job but one has to be accurate right???
