"Bring the Food upstairs!" will scream the maid form the State FLoor...  or atleast that was the way things were done in the past. Today with the convenience of the Butler's Stairwell, moving about the Mansion has become easier.

THE BUTLER'S STAIRWELL TODAY

The Butler's Stairwell located at the South East most corner of the State Floor currently serves as a convenient way to move from ground floor up to the State Floor or the Residence because of the elevator which is located here. The room opens form the Blue Room on one side and into the Kluger Terrice on the other. Often used as a 'back door' to the residence, the Stairs here are used by the President to get from the Family Dining Room to the State Floor. Guests dining in the Family Dining Room on the Second floor also often enter via the Stairwell. Today, the Stairwell remains as a busy passage way used by Staff to connect from floor to floor.

Visiting

The Stair Well is not on the Public tour, on occasion you may be able to view it through the Blue Room.
The Butlers Stairwell today. To the left is the Blue Room and to the right is the Kluger Terrice. Up the stairs leads to the Ambassador's Passage and the Family Dining Room. The Stairwell is decorated in 18th Centuary French Recco Art style.
