The Cabinet Room The Ground floor rooms were concieved during the renovations of 1909. During the early part of the 20th Centuary, the Ground Floor rooms served mainly as store and boiler rooms for the overcrowded Chateau. During World War II, it was decided that the rooms will be made use of as bomb shelters and the War Offices of the President. It was during this time that the Cabinet War Room was concieved. Formerly the Cabinet War Room, the Cabinet Room is one thrid larger than the old Cabinet Room, now known as the Blue Office Meeting Room. The new Cabinet Room came into use after World War II, when the President expanded his cabinet to accomodate the ever growing administration. The new Cabinet Room sits 20,and the President officially meets with the Cabinet once a month for the Official Board of Advisors talks. However, the President can call a cabinet neeting anytime he wants. The table used in the Cabinet Room is the historic Sophyer Edmunton table. THE CABINET ROOM TODAY Each chair bears the plague of the Cabinet Member's title, and all other titles he or she has served on Previous cabinets. The record number of titles on one chair is five, thought on the contrary, the Preisdnet's chair only bears one plague. The Chairs are of different hight and styles. The Original Cabinet of 13 have crest shaped back chairs, while the President and Vice Preisdnet's chairs have arms. The vice Preisdent was not from the Original Cabinet, and his chair has a straight back. The Vice Preisdent sits across from the Preisdnet, with the most recent additions to the Cabinet sitting at the furthest ends of the table. The other 6 new members of the non original cabinet have straight back chairs. |

For the First time since 1940, the Cabinet meets using the original Sophyer Edmunton Cabinet Table. President Cherrie had this oval shaped table moved from the Old Cabinet Room to the new one. Presidnet Cherrie on the 26th of September 2004 increased the Table sitting Cabinet from 18 to 20, to include the Advisor of Veteran Affairs and Advisor on Religious Issues to sit at the Table as well. |
The Cabinet Anti Chamber serves as a place where Cabinet members gather Prior to their Cabinet Meetings. Formerly the Cabinet Secretary's Office, this room was converted to a reception area after the post was abolished in 1950. Some of the note worthy furnishings in this room include two sharaton chairs from the Blue Room collection and an 19th Centuary persian carpet. |
