Advanced Classes

Though its possible that you want your character to have very general abilities; the kind available to a standard Imperial guard trooper, a regular adventurer, an Ogryn boxer or a ratling sniper and so on, it is also possible that you may want to give your character a more specific set of skills.

Advanced classes are designed to be more specific but more restrictive. In their area of specialization they are extremely potent. Anyone that wishes to fill any of the special roles of the Dark Millenium, like Adeptus Mechanicus Engineer, a Scholastic Psykana Psyker or a Necromundan Beastmaster Wyrd will have to eventually take levels in an appropriate advanced class.

For this reason advanced classes form a core component of the d20 Warhammer 40,000 Setting. The d20-40k player has an incredible selection of advanced classes. Many of these form part of the d20 Modern SRD and are canon across all modern-based games such as the Bodyguard, the Gunslinger and the Soldier. For ease of reference all the 40k compatible SRD classes can be found here – with the text occasionally modified slightly to reflect the 40k game (updated skills and so on). A few classes have their origins in Urban Arcana or d20 Future. You will also find here however a number of unique-to-40k advanced classes. There are some classes in the SRD not listed here. This means for one reason or another I did not feel they were compatible with Warhammer 40,000. Be wary as a GM about allowing players to use those classes in this setting.

Never the less the quantity of advanced classes offers players a pretty dizzying array of options – especially when combined with the various basic class combinations leading up to the advanced class chosen. Some advanced classes lead right up into a prestige class. Prestige classes are dealt with in Chapter 9.

Another special thing you will find here is at the end of each class a brief list of character archetypes that would take this particular class as well as typical 40k designations or titles so you can name your character appropriately.

Prestige Classes

Prestige classes form a focused class structure for the d20-40k setting at higher levels. This allows you to pick very specific character archetypes found in the Warhammer 40,000 universe like powerful psykers, inquisitors, ancient navigators, assassins of the Officio Assassinorum, Grey Knights or Chaos Sorcerers.

If you’re looking for more prestige classes, the Sniper and Spec-Op classes from the Urban Arcana web enhacement off of the d20 Modern homepage are also appropriate for a d20-40k setting.

Below are some of the Prestige Classes available to any characters that meet the high prerequisites.
