| Upon these grounds... |
| The Chateau building and its two wings are encompassed by 14 ha of green land. It's with, 400 meters by length, 800 meters, streaches over good part of central down town Metro City. Upon these grounds, the President conducts the office of administration, and private life. These grounds give solitude, away from the busy world outside the fences of the Chateau complex. To the north of the Chateau is Constitution street, to the west is Lame Hill and the Caldecott Defense Ministry, to the East is the Preisdent's Kluger Office Building, and to the south is Constitution Walk. THE NORTH LAWN The Norht lawn is the ractangle lawn infront of the north farcade of the Chateau. From the North Portico, one will be able to view the vast expense of the North Lawn, and look on to Constution Street. The North Lawn mesures 110 meters in length and 50 meters in diameter. Maniqured to a syle of the Ference Barouqe Gardens format, the Horticuture around the North Lawn includes well trimmed headges lined with oak and maple trees. For ceremonial purposes, the North Lawn is used by the president to bid fare well to a visitng head of State at the end of the first segment of a State Visit, and is also used for certian peresidential parades and trooping of colour. Dinners and official receptions also take place from time to time under a gran marquee erected on the North Lawn, especially during the summer months. THE SOUTH LAWN The South Lawn is a vast expense of green lawn to the South Portico of the Chateau. Modeled after the 'great american backyard' the South Lawn is less formal in terms of horticuture arrangements as to the opposing North Lawn. Mesuring in an Oval Shape a length of 260 Meters by 200 Meters in breath, the South Lawn is used for a veriaty of purposes including the State Arrivial Ceremonies of visiting dignatries, the arrivial and departures of the President by helicopter, and of course the great tea parties for over 800 people the President hosts for the public during the summer months. The annual easter Egg Roll also takes place on the South lawn, where over 2000 children play on the grounds. Up to the year 2000, the National Christmas tree was place on the South lawn. For security reasons, as it was open to the public duing december, the tree has since been moved beyond the Chateau Secuirty Fence. On the South Lawn and surronding it lies a great wealth of nature, plants and herbs. The Chateau has taken into account for over 200 years the use of the President grounds as a reserve for wildlife, birds and plants. Up to 100 different trees have been planted and are growing on the South Lawn of the Chateau. THE KLUGER GARDEN The Kluger Garden in a rectangular Garden surrounded by well menucured hedges and roses mesuring a length and breath of 25 Meters by 20 meters. The Kluger Garden belies the President's Golden Office suite, and the President's Office Collonade. Often used for Bill Signing ceremonies and Award Ceremonies, the Kluger Garden also serves as a private place of respose for the President duiring the hours he spends in the Office Wing. THE AU JARDIN The Au Jardin is just ajacent to the Kluger Garden's south, and is a mirrored garden to the Kluger Garden. Mesuring a length of 35 meters by 20 meters, the Au Jardin is modeled after a typical french garden. The President does not use the Au Jardin as much as the Kluger Garden, but it serves often as a formal reception area or a spill over garden for an event taking place on the North Lawn. There have been numerous trees planted here, including on by King Louis XVI himself. As with tradition, many french presidents who have called at the Chateau also plant a tree here at the Au Jardin, as part of their official visit. Trees have been planted by President Charles De Gulle and President Jacuqes Chirac. THE WEST GROUNDS The West grounds is a great area of natural reserve that streaches to the extreme west of the Chateau grounds. in a triangle shape, the grounds have a length of over 400 meters and a with of about 200 meters. The west grounds also holds the recreation facilities of the Chateau which include a 50 meter swimming pool, two tennis courts, a batminton court and a running track around the area. There is also a small swan lake located on the West Grounds The West Grounds also contain nature reserve like trails and is very similar, as in miniautre to the gardens and nature trails of Kensington Park. THE EAST GROUNDS The East grounds in recent years has become more of a parking space for the numerous staff of the president. It has broad roads where the never ending line of cars drive through to pick and drop staff, callers, dignatries and aides off for meetings and other activities at the Chateau. It does not have musch more then that as a function, but it serves also as a busy walk way from the neighbouring Kluger Office Building to the Presidnet's main Chateau offices. Over 300 Staff walk to and fro from the Chateau to the Kluger Building next door daily. News intervies and impromptu press encounters also happen alot here. THE CHILDRENS GARDENS The Children's Garden is located on the west most part of the South Lawn, and here, Children of all Presidents have placed a plague and have left ther mark here. The Children's Garden mesures in Oval Shape a diameter of about 15 meters, and a huge oak tree in the middle of the Garden has a tree house, and a chain swing attached to one of the branches. THE AMBASSADORS ENTERANCE The Ambassadors Enterence and courtyard is located at the West Wing of the Chateau. Here guests, of all sorts enter. The Ambassadors Enterecne is also used on each saturday by over 2000 tourists entering the tours of the Chateau. |
