Possible Character Backgrounds
Your character can be part of the group already inhabiting the Silver River area. If you would like to take this option, please draft a short character history for approval, since we can give you more details about what your character would know once we know the specifics of the background you’ve chosen.
Orignially, the community came from two places:
Darkhaven
Darkhaven was a city of 12,000 souls that spanned a large bay. It was commanded by an army called The Crimson Iron Fist (‘The Fist’). The ruler was an evil woman called Desdaemona Darkblade, who was often absent whilst conquering other places. Her son, Erysol, ruled in her stead.
It was divided into two sections: the more upmarket areas, and the shanties.
If your character is a merchant, they may have owned a store on the North or South Bridge in Darkhaven, crossing the river that led to the bay. They may have had a nice little house in the main town. Either might have frequented the Storm’s Mist Inn on occasion. Storm’s Mist was run by a man called Byron Hawkline.
If your character has a more seedy or suspicious occupation, they may have lived in the shanties part of town, also known as the Rat District because of the local ale house and fight club: The One-Eyed Rat, run by a man called Lars.
Castlegard
A small village of serfs supporting a mercenary army called The Thornheart Knighthood, commanded by Lady Ralla Jagger. Lady Mornae Black is her daughter, and was once her first officer. The village was surrounded by farming and orchard land, and there was no Inn.
An event occured that changed their lives forever:
THE CHAOS STORM
In January 2004, Darkhaven was hit by a Chaos Storm. The inhabitants of Darkhaven and Castlegard had some warning, and 2,000 were moved via Gates to a country called Jacinth on a new world. There they lived in an encampment in Dragongate Village for a while until they were split into four groups.
The four groups were:
The Black Army
The Black Army is the ruling force in Silver River, commanded by Lord Erysol Black of South Pass and his wife, Lady Mornae Black of Whitewater. The army consists of infantry, cavalry and archers. If you would like to play a military character, the lowest ranks are available. Promotion to the officers’ ranks can only be done through RP, and it is unusual for a character to be made an officer if they are not already a member of the Black Army.
Dragongate Village
Some new housing was built on the outskirts of the village, but no stores or commercial buildings were made available there. If your character offers a service that doesn’t require a storefront, and is of an upstanding nature, they may have lived in Dragongate Village. The local inn was called the Dragongate Inn, and run by a man called Seth. Since this is more recent history, they may recognise some bartenders from the Dragongate Inn, notably Saloli, Saralynn, Tizra.
Whitewater Village
Mornae took several hundred people, mostly families with small children, to Whitewater Village. They farmed the land, raised cattle and sheep, and filled the jobs that a small fortress of soldiers and cavalry would require: cooks, cleaners, grooms, clerics, clerks, tailors, smiths and so on. Similar to Castlegard, this location has a much more community, homely feel to it.
South Pass
Erysol led a few thousand people, including a lot of single men, to this mountain pass. There they lived in caves and began building a town and fortress from scratch. The Black Army’s job was to defend the pass on behalf of the conclave of dragons who rules the land. Many of these people were from the Darkhaven shanties, so it’s a much rougher life, and the law-keeping has a much tougher style.
Then just as they had settled into their new homes...
THE MIST
A mist enveloped each of these four groups, and brought the community as a whole to Silver River Delta. That is where you will find your character now. Click on the Sample Scene link in the left column to see the arrival, via the Mist, at Silver River Delta.
