About UsWe are a group of friends trying to write a collaborative story through role-play. We are not trying for art. We just want to have fun and create interesting lives for our little characters and move our stories along.
Because we're friends, and because we've found that a certain style of RP suits us, we're fully aware that the channel can appear to be a 'clique'. In some ways, it is. That's unavoidable when the regular participants know each other fairly well, and a certain style of play has evolved between those players.
We don't think we're better than anyone else. We just know that we're somewhat different to other players and other styles. We welcome new players who want to make friends and collaborate with us in our style of RP.
Because our style of play works for us, we work hard to maintain it. We've discovered that it doesn't work for many online RP'ers, but since there are plenty of online RP opportunities and many different styles of RP, we're not arrogant enough to assume that everyone should be happy playing in our channel. However, we would like people who play in our channel to be happy doing so.
Since the only thing we're experts on is our own style of play, the only call we'll ever make is whether or not a player can play in that style. We don't make judgement calls on whether a player is good or bad, nor on whether a character is good or bad. We just make calls on whether they fit with our particular style. It's nothing personal.
This website gives as much of an outline as possible of our style of play, the 'world' in which we play, and the rules by which we play. You might not agree with some of it. If what you read here sounds like it won't suit you, we wish you luck finding something that does suit you.
If what you read here sounds too restrictive, or stupid, or wrong, please bear in mind that this is just what works for us. We're not saying this is how people should RP. We're saying this is how we RP.
If you'd like to come and lurk in the channel, watch us RP, see if it looks like fun to you, then you're welcome to do that.
Please also come into the ooc channel so we can say hello to you, and so you can ask any questions you may have. If you'd like to ask questions, please remember that the answers we give are the answers that work for us, not The Answers We Think Everyone Should Agree With.
If you're easily offended, or in a filthy mood, or unwilling to consider collaboration in our particular style of RP, please do everyone a favour and look at the very cool Darkmyst website (www.darkmyst.org), where other RP channels are listed for your playing pleasure.
Finally, the regular players are all real people. This channel is the place we come to hang out and have fun with our friends. If you wouldn't barge into someone's house and help yourself to the bar, making rude comments about the owners' choice of color-scheme, please don't do it here. If you would do that, please don't play here.
It takes time to make friends. If you're willing to give it some time and effort, so are we.
Other Important Things To Note
Our stories and activities are aimed at the Eighteen(18) year old and up crowd. We curse, we kill people, sometimes graphically, we have romances and might get a little steamy in both the forum and the channel. To RP with us, you must be of a maturity level to be able to participate in such things.
The magic boot of ass-kicking is an artifact possessed by all of our channel storytellers and will probably be used liberally to remind you... and each other not to make it un-fun. Do not take it personally - but DO take a hint. We all have off-days. Every single one of the ops has been kicked, and will be kicked again, from time to time.
While we have no objection to Freeform as an ideal, it can become too uncontrollable for us to maintain the play style we like. While we encourage some freeform style play, at any time, our rules may grab you by the back of the neck and make you play according to our structure. If someone ruling on your actions and activities is going to bother you, this might not be the place for you.
We don't require 'stat' based character sheets. For a reference point, standard old style Dungeons and Dragons is the most commonly accepted and most easily understood type of character. Palladium and other styles are acceptable. (Within reason.) White Wolf is accepted within limits of the fantasy setting but anyone who only really enjoys high tech, angst ridden and gloomy scenes should probably not be here. Other fantasy creatures and creations are allowable if they do not breach too many of our world's reality rules.
