| Exodus 20:7 We will listen to the warning God gives about using His name in vain, but we will also look at the positive side of using His name. After all, as Christians we are people deeply associated with that name: we believe in his name, we pray in His name, we gather in His name, we serve in His name and we have been baptized in His name. Amazingly, we have been given the privilege to use " the name which above evry name..." |
| Exodus 20:13
The Lord needed only two words to produce the sixth commandment. Out of ten words which are associated with killing in the Old Testament, He chooses the one which refers specifically to the killing of a human whether that persons death is intentional (murder) or accidental (manslaughter). If we understand the true spirit of this commandment, we realize God is forcing us to learn to love sinful people just like He does. |
| Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. |
| How does the Law of Moses apply to us today? Do we need to keep ten commandments? What does the Gospel tell us about Christianity and legalism? |
| What did Jesus Say |
| During His three years of ministry, Jesus said some specific things to His disciples. In this series Pastor Steve takes us through those specific instructions. |
| Luke 20: 19-26
Until the Prince of Peace (Is 9:6) takes His throne there will always be tension between the political and the spiritual. Every believer faces the question of where do I draw the line between my responsibility to submit to human authority and to Gods authority. Jesus stood surrounded by a large crowd in the Temple courtyard. The question posed by a spy was carefully crafted to trap Jesus to choose from one of two possible answers, either of which would lead to His death. One would alienate the Romans, the other the multitude. His answer was an example of the word of wisdom (1Co 12:8) and left everyone speechless. |
| Mark 11:20-24 To those people who have taken up the cross and follow Jesus the Father gave a special gift - authority in prayer. This service focuses on what Jesus said: "Have Faith in God". We will learn how to pray with faith. How to find God's will. What is it faith. How to have and keep your Faith. |
| Mark 8:1-21; Matthew 16:6-12
How is it possible for a person to see a miracle with his own eyes and then forget to ask God for help only a short time later? And when Jesus spotted that happening in His own disciples He warned them saying, beware the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees and then He even added, beware the leaven of Herod. We have to ask: How could such divergent groups possibly result from the same spiritual disease? Why did He feel it was necessary to say this to His own disciples? Was it possible they too were already infected? Is it possible this spiritual leaven has invaded my spiritual life? |
| Luke 9:57-62 In todays lesson Jesus issues a powerful warning to all who wish to become His disciples. He says those who cant endure hardship will be completely ineffective at doing Gods work. What does it mean to be fit (well-placed, suitable, usable) for the Kingdom of God? What does putting his hand to the plow mean? What does it mean to look back? |
| Matthew 5:33-37 Many have a hard time trusting God because they have seldom met people who can be trusted. This is why the Lord is so deeply concerned that His disciples become promise keepers. In this short passage comprised of only five verses from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls us to be faithful. He wants people to be able to experience the heart of God through us. What happenes when you don't keep your word? Why do people break promisses? |
| Matthew 10:38, 39
Jesus never hid from people the cost of following Him. In this chapter of Matthew Jesus instructs twelve of His disciples before sending them out on an evangelistic campaign. As we listen to His words we are sobered by the thought that the principles behind these warnings still apply to us today. What did Jesus tell His disciples? What does the cross represent today? When do we embrace the cross? What Jesus is not saying. Why do we embrace the cross? |
| Matthew 6:9-13 Lets listen afresh to the Lords Prayer and as we do well hear it call us deeper into a relationship of trust with our heavenly Father. It will also remind us how desperately we need His loving care each day and how certain we can be that we will have it. |
| John 15:1-11
In order to enter into a life of discipleship there are three initial steps we must take. These are expressed by the following commandments of Christ. - Follow Me - Take My Yoke - Abide in Me Today well focus on the third of the above commands (Abide in Me). Well examine His analogy of a grapevine, well define the key words abide and fruit, and then well discover the amazing array of blessings promised to those who will obey this command. |
| Luke 10:25-37
Our focus today as we listen to the Lords commandment is not on the fact that we should love our neighbor, but on how He wants us to do this. There are some very important questions that need to be answered if our obedience is to be effective. What is Love? Who is my neighbor? What should I/we do? Why do we do these acts of love? |
| Luke 6:36-45
With the command to judge not! Jesus puts His finger on one of the most troubled places in the human heart. Of all the commands of our Lord, none is harder to obey, yet more important than this one. When His people learn to judge not we release seasons of revival. When judgment is replaced with love people are saved, healed and set free. What is judgmentalism? Why is this wrong? Where does judgmentalism come from? What is the solution? When can we judge? |
| Matthew 5:21-26
When Jesus commands us to love one another He really means it (Jn 13:34). He isnt fooled for a moment when we try to cover angry hearts with superficial friendliness or attempt to justify our anger by placing the blame on others. Today as we examine our Lords command well first try to understand the clear meaning of His words. Next, well consider why reconciliation is so important. Then well go on and talk practically about what a reconciliational event might look like, even while acknowledging that some situations are hard or nearly impossible to reconcile. And finally, well recognize how appropriate this subject is when preparing our hearts to take communion. |
| Gospel of Luke |

| Genesis 14:1-16 A look at Abraham's tithe to the priest and why we would want to give to God. |
| 1Cor 16: 1-4 We will learn how to be generous. |
| Through these messages, Pastor Steve helps us understand the Ten Commandments as never before. Instead of seeing them as a list of strict rules and legalistic guidelines, you'll discover the powerful relevence they have for our lives as well as how they are meant to draw us into a deeper relationship with the Lord and develop a deeper love for those around us. |
| God's Dwelling Place |
| Through this series you'll relive the days leading up to the crucifixion of the Son of God--as He became the ultimate sacrifice and endured the most horrible death sentence possible under Roman rule. In addition to examining the historical and cultural events in vivid detail, you'll learn many striking lessons for your life. |
| Crossroads at the Cross |
| Each year, on the Sunday before Easter, we remember that on this day Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey while large crowds of people waved palm branches and praised God. Today, we will take a deep look at this remarkable event called Palm Sunday and, in doing so, we will see what an important moment it was in Israels history and we will try to learn the lesson it contains so that we will come to God on His terms, rather than our own. |
| Luke 21:1-4 Service about money and how to give to God. The model for us will be the widow which caught Lord's eyes. |
| A deeper understanding of what happened at the Cross. |
| It is an age-old question: who's responsible for this? And the answer is a matter of life and death. Wrong answers have produced bigotry, self-righteousness and terrible persecutions. The right answer is the first step on the road to eternal life. |
| We will talk of Joseph and Nicodemus who were secret followers of Christ. It took the death of Jesus to change them from secret followers to open Apostles. What they saw on the cross, we should see; what changed them should change us. |
| Speaking on Tongues and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit |
| In this series "The Gospel Of Luke" Pastor Steve takes us through Luke's entire letter written to his friend Theophilus detailing the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. |
| Luke 11:29-36 |
| What is the relationship between speaking in tongues and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit? What is speaking in tongues? Is speaking in tongues a gift for every believer? What are the benefits of " praying in the spirit"? What must I do to receive this gift? |
| Luke 17:5-10
The apostles have asked the Lord to increase their faith and, in verses 6-10, Luke records two of the foundational truths with which He answered them. What is faith? Why is faith important? How do I get faith? How does Jesus increase our faith? |
| 1 Timothy 2:1-8 We will look to Paul's instructions (2:1-12).God's work on earth begins with prayer. It is essential to pray first and continue to pray because prayer brings transformation. |
| Genesis 37:1-36
Someone was determined to prevent Josephs dreams from coming true. In fact, they were willing to kill him if thats what it took to stop those dreams. How did God cause this evil to work for good? What did Joseph do to allow the miracle to take place? What good things resulted from Josephs obedience? |
| Old Testament Studies |
| Genesis 34
As a husband and a father, Jacob shamelessly showed favoritism toward his wives and his children and, just as you would expect, it produced deep trouble in his family. In todays study we will review his favoritism and the effects it produced; consider the deep instincts aroused when we are treated this way; and then we will review the choices which must be made if we are going to love people the way God wants us to. In other words, we will discover how to expand the circle of our love. |
| Genesis 39
Joseph was promoted in every situation into which he was placed. This was because God was with him(vs 2, 21). In what ways was Joseph tempted? How did he resist temptation? What happened as a result? What would have happened if he had yielded to the temptation? |
| As it says in Proverbs, we too must trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Lets refresh our memory about how to find Gods will by studying Proverbs 3:5-7 |
| Exodus 4:18-26 We are going to learn some valuable lessons about family by observing a very painful moment in the marriage of Moses and Zipporah. Yet, it teaches lessons that both men and women need to hear because some of Gods attitudes about family are clearly revealed here. And after all, family is Gods idea ( Eph 3:14-15). He is the One who calls us into family. |
| Luke 1:26-56
This passage in Luke took place nine months before Jesus was born. It describes the moment when Archangel Gabriel presented Mary with Gods call to serve Him. He confronted her with a very painful choice, and the way she responded is one of the greatest moments in the Bible. |
| Matthew 27:5-28:20
Over and over again in Scripture Lord tells us to not be afraid because He is with us and has provided wonderful promises for us. He tells us His victories and rewards are now ours. If well realize all He has given us well no longer be afraid. Instead, well boldly move forward, not in self-confidence, but in faith. Lets listen some of His promises and let them calm our fears. |
| Exodus 8:1-15
Every time we deliberately say no to God we harden our own hearts, and every time we say yes to Him we become softer. This passage in Exodus concludes with the statement, But when Pharaoh saw there was relief he hardened his own heart and did not listen to them as the Lord had said (v 15). In order to understand what was taking the place in Pharaoh we will first listen to a remarkable explanation about human choices Jesus gave in Matthew 13:10-17. Next we will distinguish between ignorance, defiance and obedience. And finally well discover that by obedience God draws us closer and closer to Himself. An obedient heart leads to a relationship of great intimacy and understanding as friends of God. |
| Exodus 15 What is worship? Why do we worship? How do we worship? Worshipping with Moses. |
| Exodus 17:1-7; Numbers 20:1-13
Throughout Israels history God ordered certain events so they would prophetically point to the ministry of Jesus Christ. By doing this He was preparing their hearts and minds to recognize their Messiah when He came. The rock which poured out rivers of water at Rephidim was one of there events. It is powerful illustration of the crucifixion of our Lord. But it also challenges us to remember the other gift Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit whose limitless presence in us open the door to a brand new life. |
| Exodus 17:8-16; Deuteronomy 25:17-19
No sooner had rivers of water flowed out of the rock at Rephidim than Israel experienced a vicious, unprovoked attack. Instead of leading his men in battle Moses gave that job to Joshua and committed himself to fight in prayer. And the picture of him standing on that hilltop with his hands in the air from morning till night has inspired believers to fervent prayer ever since. His example at Rephidim teaches us important lessons about how to win when we fight spiritual battles. |
| Exodus 20:1-6 Purpose of the Ten Commandments is to teach us how to love: first, to love God with all our heart, soul and might, and then to love our neighbor as ourselves. Considering these commandments as a whole, we see that the first four focus on loving God, and the final six focuses on loving our neighbor. We are going to look more deeply at the first two: 1) You shall have no other gods before Me 2) You shall not make for yourself an idol. |
| Exodus 20:12 It is interesting that the first lesson on learning to love my neighbor as myself has to do with honoring those God have placed in authority over me as a child. What is honor? What does the fifth commandment say? Why does God care so much about the way we relate to our parents? What will result if we obey the fifth commandment? |
| Luke 1:26-37; 2:1-20 Apostle John said,"God is love". The one word which explains the existence of the universe, the creation of the human race, the birth and death of Jesus Christ, the gift of eternal life, and everything else God has done is love...real, pure, selfless love. Let's examine some of the questions and see how their answers all emerge from the love of God. |
| Much confusion has arisen over the centuries because of people who call themselves "Christians" but show no fruit of a changed life. Their attitudes and behavior make it seem that the "new birth" Jesus promised is not a true miracle from God. Their example can even discourage others from turning to Christ. So, let's look more closely at what must take place for a person to be born again. |
| Anyone who chooses to live a life of service for God will sooner or later be confronted with two apparently conflicting truth. The first is that God unquestionably answers prayer and still does miracles today. But there is also a second truth that many people find hard to cope with. This is the truth that some prayers seem to go unanswered, or at least the answer is no. Naturally, on a subject as vital to us as this, the Bible has much to say. Today well look at some key passages that will give us perspective and encourage our hearts. |
| No sooner had God made a covenant with Israel than He ordered Moses to Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I made dwell among them (Ex. 25:8). This was a portable tent which could be set up wherever the nation camped so God could dwell in the midst of His people. The construction of this tabernacle was the beginning of a great theme running through the Bible: The Lord wants dwell in the midst of His people wherever they go. The more we learn about this truth, the more it will change our lives. |
| Exodus 20:18-26; 33:7-11
We will look to how become Gods friend. God would like all of us to be His friends. He draws us all in this place of friendship but the choice is ultimately yours. |
| Genesis 22
This is a wonderful chapter in which one side brings us the Gospel, and on other side showing us an example of how God can test His followers. You will see both sides of this chapter today. |
