Smaug, the Evil Dragon
(sung to Puff, the magic dragon, by Peter, Paul, and Mary)

Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save
Little Bilbo Baggins snuck into his lair
And told him many riddles then and stole a cup with care.
Oh,

Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save
Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save

Old villain Smaug grew vengeful and quickly he took flight
Bilbo hid with thirteen dwarves who shivered in their fright
Men of Esgaroth town took shelter when he came
Buildings, ships and nearby woods were sheathed in sooty flame.
Oh,

Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save
Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save

A dragon lives forever unless he could be slain
Bilbo's peek and thrush's speech Smaug's secret they did name.
One black arrow shot forth from Bard the hunter's bow
And Smaug that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearsome roar.

His body crashed in Long Lake, the water rose and fell
Smaug no longer terrorized the Men of former Dale
Without the dragon's threat, Bard was then crowned King
And Bilbo, Dwarves, and Elven lords all gathered round to sing:

Oh,
Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save
Smaug, the evil dragon, lived in his cave
And frolicked in his gold and gems that he did hoard and save
