RIBLET, SWARTZ posted by Carol Immel Nelson on Sunday, October 3, 1999

I am researching Henry SWARTZ (1770-1848) who married Elizabeth RIBLET (1776-1870). They moved from Bedford Co PA to Wayne Co OH about 1832. They had 8 girls and 4 boys. I can only name Robert R. SWARTZ 1816-1897 and William R. SWARTZ 1820-1908. I would enjoy hearing from anyone research the SWARTZ surname in Wayne Co, Ashland Co, Richland Co, and Medina Co as I have gathered lots of SWARTZ info from those areas.

SLOAN, SLOANE, WILLIAMS posted by Elizabeth M. Sloane on Wednesday, October 6, 1999

This is an addition and correction to my earlier posting. Since then I have learned that my grandfather Ellsey SLOANE changed the spelling of his name after leaving Ashland, Ohio. His father was William SLOAN and his mother was Elizabeth Ann WILLIAMS.They had 4 children: Elyze SLOAN(later known as Ellsey SLOANE) John SLOAN who worked on the railroad at Peoria, Illinois, William SLOAN who was a blacksmith in Gallion, Ohio, and Rudolph B. SLOAN. Elzye SLOAN was a survivor of the Sultana disaster during the Civil War .He had been sent to the hospital after his release from the prison at Cahaba, Alabama but he slipped away to join his camrades on the Sultana. On being detected he was sent back to the hospital and was thus saved from certain death when the Sultana blew up. I have done a lot of searching but have found litle of substance concerning any of my ancestors in Ohio.
