08/15 - yesterday i went to Waimea Bay w/ my friends. it's probably gonna be the last time i go out w/ this summer, & the last time i'll see Shan when she goes back to Colorado this weekend. my friends & i met up @ Anna's house, & then drove to Kaneohe to meet up w/ some other friends. then we all went on a long drive to Waimea Bay. some of us got lucky w/ parking & others had to wait in the heat for a parking space to open up. after the wait & long drive, jumping into the water @ Waimea was so refreshing. the water was absolutely beautiful & very clear. i think i've only to Waimea Bay once before, but that was a really long time ago. after being @ the beach for 'bout 2 hours, my friends & i went to North Shore hoping to try some famous Matsumoto's shave ice. however, the line was really long, so we went to eat @ Breaker's instead 'cause we were all very hungry.

08/02 - i just got home after spending some quality time w/ Shan =). we went to watchsEE! 13 Going On 30 @ Restaurant Row. the movie tickets there costs $1, but since we were there for the matinee...it only cost us 50 cent ?!. can you believe that ???!! ?! what a deal that was..=). i must admit that going in watchingsEE! 13 Going On 30 i was expecting a corny movie that replicates the Tom Hank movie Big. however, i left the theater feeling really good 'bout the movie because, overall, it was a good, funny LOL!, entertaining movie i could really relate to.
13 Going On 30 (2004)Synopsis: 13-year old Jenna Rink has had enough w/ the trials of adolescence. After she falls victim to the dangers of playing "7 Mins. in Heaven" w/ the coolest kids in school--being stranded w/o a willing make-out partner in her closet during her birthday party. Humiliated, Jenna wishes she could skip the whole adolescence bit, & move straight into adulthood--especially being 30-year old. Miraculously, Jenna then awakes just weeks away from her 30th birthday. Of course, a lot has changed since being stuck in the closet--most impressive is her set of womanly curves. The new, older Jenna is a successful magazine editor w/ friends in high places, & surrounded by potential suitors. However, her mind hasn't matured w/ her body. Shortly Jenna finds herself living on her own more terrifying than cool, but is quick to dismiss any male over the age of 14 as "gross." Half excited, half mortified, Jenna seeks out her childhood best friend, whom she had spurned as a teenager in an effort to join the popular crowd, to sort things out. after the movie, Shan & i had lunch @ Gyotaku hoping to find Tara & Brandi working there. turns out today was Brandi's day off, so we only got to seesEE! Tara.

08/01 - today was my 1st day off since having had to work @ Macy's for 5 days straight. i'm really enjoying the day by lounging around the house watchingsEE! lots of t.v. & movies. 1 of the better movies i watchedsEE! is The Boxer starring Daniel Day-Lewis, the butcher in Gangs of New York.
The Boxer (1997)Synopsis: Released after a 14-year prison sentence in Belfast for IRA activities, 32-year-old boxer Danny Flynn returns to his old neighborhood, & renews his relationship w/ Maggie, his former-flame who has an unhappy marriage & is raising her son alone while her husband is in prison. Determined to avoid the bloodshed that was inherent in his political past & to build a new life in his old home, he gets the community-center gym back in operation & starts training. The gym trains young boxers, like himself, w/ no political or sectarian ties. But his relationship to the past refuses to let him live a life of peace. (found & altered from blockbuster.com)
The Boxer was a very riveting film w/ an interesting storyline. the strife going on in Belfast is 1 i'm not too educated upon. i don't really understand the Catholic vs Protestant fight & vice versa. i guess it runs too deep to be explained in the movie, but it was intriqueing nonetheless.

it's summer! it's summer!! carnations! it's summer! it's summer!
