- sorry its been a while since i last wrote here. but then again, i don't think anyone actually reads this on a regular basis . anyway, i've been mostly working & chilling @ home these past few weeks, except for the occasional beach-outings to Waikiki Beach w/ my friends. well, i recently borrowed a video from the library, & the movie was hilarious & entertaining . i actually was hesitant 'bout getting the video 'cause i thought the storyline was quite whack & it'd be a waste of time & dollar. however, the Singapore film, That's The Way I Like It, was something i haven't seen from an Asian film before. don't worry folks, the movie was filmed completely in spoken English--not dubbed over or has subtitles. Synopsis: In 1970s Singapore, 20-year-old grocery clerk Hock tries to survive w/ high hopes but low expectations. He's still living w/ his parents, & dotes on his younger brother & his little sister--who's addicted to romance novels. Hock doesn't have a girlfriend, & his male friends like to bowl & watch kung-fu movies. When Hock looks in to the mirror, he sees himself as Bruce Lee riding a fast motorcycle w/ a beautiful woman on the back seat hanging on to him. 1 night, the local movie house replaces the usual kung-fu fare w/ a movie called "Forever Fever"--a Singaporean version of "Saturday Night Fever". Hock hates disco, but tags along w/ his friends. To his surprise, he's taken in by the movie & goes to see it over & over again. He even holds secret conversations w/ the hero of the film, who gives him a few tips about making a move on the dance floor & in life. Hock then enters a disco-dancing contest, hoping to win the $5000 cash prize so he can buy himself a motorcycle. However, his dancing partner, childhood friend Mei, seems interested in another kind of prize, & it also seems that his seemingly perfect, smart younger brother might need the money more than him.
