September 8,2002 -   I can't kid myself anymore. Summer is officially over and I am not sure how I feel about it.I tried to squeeze as much life out of it as possible with a last second trip to Schlitterbaun Labor Day weekendThis summer was certainly eventful...there aren't many three months periods in anyone's life where they:
See their best friend from high school get married
Break up with their signifcant other of three years
Quit their job to go see
Undercover Brother (admittedly, 3 seconds            before they are fired)
Start dating one of my best friend's younger sisters
Turn 23 (I feel so old)
Go on a two week roadtrip highlighted by stops in Las Vegas,                   San Diego, Tijuana, San Francisco, Reno, and Durango
     Win $500 on said trip
Promptly lose $510 back (don't ask)
Get dumped upon my return to Houston (again, don't ask)
Drop $9000 to start law school, an enterprise that they are entirely              unsure of.
Eventful is the only word that I can think of that can fully capture the experience. I certainly had more ups and downs than (***choose your own joke here: 1) The Gold Club dancers when the Knicks were in town, 2) Keanu's career, or 3) Jason Kidd's reputation). Everything that happenned above were inarguably the major events of this summer. They are not where the fun is to be found, though. The fun, the lasting memories, are in the details...the small events that occurred between the big ones. Such as:
Fishing for Animal Crackers at the Garcia kitchen table
Getting drunk w/ Elizabeth over "happy hour"
That ricketty pump breaking over and over Memorial Day weekend
That Timberwolf night where Blake made us presents
The way Kiley looked at Wes's wedding
Sitting in the car at Michelle's to watch out for her stalker
Girls waving their bikini bottoms at me while I
still whupped Jeff and his brother at water basketball.
Jill drunk-dialing my friend Jason while he was in the bathtub
Country-dancing at the Marquis with Jeff's grenade
Jill announcing her sexual issues to a packed BW-3
Hari sucking it up and taking the hook-up from hell this summer
     Finally hitting Kristin's bullshit limit
Erin seriously considering adopting a Brazilian child
Lunch with Manuel, with him continuously shaking his head at me and my bullshit stories (all of my true stories sound like BS)
That cool, surreal day that I spent to San Antonio
The magic feeling I had watching the US victories overMexico and Portugal
The Astros late summer run at respectability
The cell phone roulette and OGR phenomena
Sarah implying that she had bi tendencies to the non-Al Marquis bartender
The eye-opening hickness of the Todd Snider concert.
Jeff, Blake, and I waking up early to stand in line for theatre tickets.
Meaghan, Blake, Jennifer and I getting and giving temporary tatoos in the Wal-Mart McDonald's.
Seeing Robert Evan's speak before watching
The Kid Stays in the Picture

Make him happy!!!!
Kevin's futile attempts to get me to go to a Tijuana strip club.
Laying down "one lastbig bet" in Vegas and living to tell the tale.
Laying down "one last big bet" in Reno and not being so lucky
Wearing the name tags of two sisters at the blackjack tables for "good luck". They didn't work.
Brian somehow materializing with a piece of pizza for Susan and Sarah at his sangria party...it seemed mystical in my drunken state.
Chris outeating Nick at graduation dinner, still the upset of the summer.
The regular morning gossip trip downstairs for cookies at my office this summer.
Anything and everything that Cindy and Greg were involved in
Kevin NARC-ing on a potential bar fight at the Marquis.
The sad fact that I almost believe Jeff met Britney Spears at a Chevron.
The movie About a Boy...although I never got anyone else to appreciate it as much.
Realizing that my brother and sister are growing up
The absolutely staggering amount of alcohol consumed by my frriends and I this summer.

Obviously, this a far from complete list.I could go on. But for now, you should all just be thankful that my column is back...
Great improvement since I last wrote, but still too far out to catch up.
