Still recovering from my soccer hangover
Sleep is Overrated
June 6, 2002 - More Thoughts for Thursday:

I'm still recovering from the US soccer team's victory over Portugal yesterday. Nearly 24 hours have passed and I can't even begin to write about the game, hell, the experience, rationally yet. Even though I know I shouldn't, I guarantee I'll be up in the middle of the night for the S. Korea game. Who wants to join me?

There is little I hate more in sports than the "OVERRATED" chant. You know the one...anytime a home underdog is beating a favorite, some genius in the crowd breaks out the "O-ver-rat-ed" chant. Don't fans realize what this is saying about their own team? I have been on teams in high school where our fans have broken that out...it basically says that the only way the opposing team can possibly be losing to us is if they aren't as good as everyone thought.

Does everyone cry at their own wedding? Both weddings where I have been a groomsman have found the groom in tears. For some reason I can't imagine that that being me.

My roommate keeps assuring me the Nets match-up well with the Lakers and will win the series in six or seven. I laugh dismissively.

How long can a person subsist on alcohol, coffee, and 5 hours of sleep a night? I'm trying to find out.

Anyone who watches a baseball game these days knows that it is nearly impossible to get an error anymore.

Does every little boy dream of growing up to be in the Mafia? I certainly did....hell I still do.

Right now I am working a boring job that I feel I am way overqualified for. I think that I am smarter than nearly everyone I work with. All that said, it is amazing how bad I am at this job. The shear volume of mistakes I make on a daily basis is mind-numbing. I don't think they are near firing me or anything, but I would be. It is amazing how infectious that
Office Space culture of doing the minimum to get by really is.

Whenever I am flipping through the channels and come across the movie
Center Stage, I always linger just long enough to feel ashamed of myself.

Kiley and her intern friends are all excited that Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson is coming to speak on environmental issues on Capitol Hill tomorrow. If Sam Adams and his fellow patriots could have seen what democracy would come to, they would have decided that a monarchy and a tax on tea wasn't so bad.

I'm totally geeked up because I have seen multiple articles in national publications (
Stuff, Time!!!) that Omaha is becoming the new-Seattle...a breeding ground for musicians. When I read the articles, I had to double check the covers to make sure they weren't dated April 1st.

Check out the band The Hives...they are a Swedish punk band. If that isn't enough to make you download some of their music, I don't want to be friends anymore.

World Cup, Lewis-Tyson, Rice Owls in a Super Regional, Lakers-Nets, War Emblem running for the Triple Crown, Astros in Oakland, Hurricanes-Red Wings...all this weekend!!! I'm glad I don't have much of a social life or I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

A Thought to Ponder: Why is the chase, the journey if you will, almost always better than the end result? Discuss among yourselves.

I may go back to John Mayer based stuff tomorrow if nothing interesting happens in the interim.
