May 9, 2002- Another Thursday, another set of Random thoughts:

It is absolutely impossible for a guy to look cool while shopping at a women's clothing store with his girlfriend. I have tried it all; the smile and try to look confident technique, the avoid all forms of eye contact method. It's the worst when the girl is in the dressing room...you've lost your flank, you're all alone, anked even. All guys know and fear this situation...that is why you always see guys exchanging knowing, sympathetic looks at Express or Ann taylor.

Have you noticed the recent rise of the ugly-cute girl. This is the type of girl who you  assume is hot until you really look closely at her. Martina Hingis is the president of this club...Kirsten Dunst, Minnie Driver, and Gwyneth Paltrow are all charter members.

Speaking of Kirsten Dunst, I saw SpiderMan last weekend along w/ 20 million other americans last weekend...god popcorn flick, worth the $5.50 matinee price. Saw Y Tu Mama Tambien three days later...the anti-Spiderman, but completely engrossing. Don't go unless you are prepared for plenty of full-frontal, including an odd circle jerk scene.

Ok, Kids, SAT question of the day... Kings vs. Mavs is to Celtics vs. Pistons as "Beautiful" is to
a) Putrid
B) Hideous
C) Foul
D) All of the above
Anybody who wasted 2 and a half hours of their lives watching Game 2, like yours truly,  knows the answer.

I know I'm not consistent, but my Top 5 list has already changed...Goodbye Jennifer garner and Rachel Weisz, hello Alyssa Milano and Tina Fey. We all grew up with Alyssa, she needs no justification (heck, she helped get me through puberty). Tina Fey, for those of you with social lives, is the weekend update co-host on SNL. She's smary, sexy, and there is just something about those small rectangular glasses....

I'm sick of hearing about how great Jason Kidd is. Yes, he's the reason the Nets are where they are, yes he's the best point guard in the league, but a few sportswriters need to think back about 14 months before they nominate him for sainthood. Does anybody else remember that he was arrested for beating his wife and that she was quoted as saying that this was a regular occurrence? If a guy can win, we all seem to have a short-term memory.

Saw the funniest thing tonight in the otherwise sickening Stros-Phils game....Berkman fouls the ball down the left field line, a dad who is
holding his daughter leans out an catches the foul. Nice catch, but total disregard for the 2-year old.

Just finished an incredible book called
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. I would tell you to read it but we both know that is futile... Anyways, the author is only 24 years old. Is it just me, or do these incredibly talented people who are our age make you feel like a failure..

Two major misconceptions that need to be clarified: Funerals are to honor the dead and graduations are to honor the graduate. Nothing can be further from the truth. The dead are dead...THEY DON'T CARE!!! Funerals only serve to console and show support for the living. In turn, graduations are certainly not for those of us graduating...I can't think of very many of us graduating Saturday who really want to be there. Graduation ceremonies are just small consolation prizes for the $100,000 that our parents have shelled out over the last four or five years. The graduation dinners are just celebrations that our parents don't have to write these checks any more. Until next time...
My 14-18 4th place Astros....Mr. Ensberg, please, please learn how to bunt.
