    ARCHIVES
May 23, 2002-  Thoughts that come and go as I fill out form after form after form:

It is always a weird experience when you realize how much in common you have with your parents. For example: Today, when I went to visit my dad's ofice, he keeps trying to pawn this jelly and crackers off on me. After I question why, he tells me that they were a gift from his HOT Danish paralegal. My stepmom has major issues with said paralegal, so he is afraid to bring anything home from Denmark. This sounds so much like my life its scary...I gladly took the crackers and jelly home with me as a nod to the struggles of all men everywhere.

A firiend of mine called me anti-establishment yesterday because I generally prefer indie movies and don't listen to top 40 radio. I initially made a feeble attempt to deny it before acknowledging the truth in the argument. Deep down, though we don't admit it, us pop-culture-versed anti-establishment types think we are better than you Dave Matthews Band loving, Beautiful Mind-loving sheep...

which is all the more reason why I am ashamed that I just finished the latest John Grisham book. And, worse yet, I  liked it .

Anyone ever heard of MC Paul Barman.? Very funny little white Jewish rapper. Download some of his stuff, I guarantee you'll laugh, unless you have stick up your ass, because then you would have better thing to do, like trying to find the nearest proctologist.

Quick inventory of some things Kiley left at my apartment when she went off to DC: inhaler, a hamster, 13 stuffed animals, black lace panties, a leather jacket, a Sega Genesis, and 6 plastic cups.

Another night of Celebrity Boxing, another round of columnists writing about the downfall of our society. Lighten up!! I think people passing judgment about the moral weight of  different televisions programs is ridiculous. People will watch what they enjoy.

I seriously believe that it is a crime that we as a society allow homelesness to happen. I hear all of the arguments about how they are all drunks, and users, and nutjobs, but is that any reason that they have to sleep beneath a bridge or at a bus stop? If these are the people who have generally had it the roughest in life, isn't that all of the more reason to help them. The money is there, hundreds of shelters could be built in cities across America almost overnight. why aren't they? Us compassionate Americans don't want anyone getting something fro free, something they didn't "earn". The sad, ugly other cheek  of the "American Dream"

Do you believe Mike Tyson is completely insane or just calculating enough to realize that he makes himself more money with each body part he bites?

Speaking of boxing, did anyone catch the Arturo Gatti-Mickey Ward fight over the weekend? If you get the chance, catch the HBO replay. It was the most amazing, confusing mix of brutality and heart.  I felt so guiltily exhilarated watching two fighters lay themselves so bare.

It pain me to say this, but I have a feeling that Craig Biggio has a fork hanging precariously over his back.

Unless your name is Kiley, check ot the website of the "event" I'm going to this weekend:
http://users2.ev1.net/~mister_d It should definitely genererate some column fodder.

I spent over $200 on cds and cd-related products in the last week and a half...no wonder I'm always broke.

I don't believe in capital punishment, the DH rule, the war on terrorism, country music, cats, or bigotry of any form. I do believe in abortion, gay marriage and adoption, the Kyoto Protocol, rap music, caper flicks, and the legalization of marijuana. Who would have thought that a white male who has lived in the twin bastions of conservatism, Nebraska and Texas, would be left of your average socialist?

I'm going on vacation for the weekend, so I'll be back writing on Monday. Until then...
