| May 19, 2002- Today's READER MAIL Glenn, why should we continue to read all of you're opinions and take them seriously? Well reader, the answer to that question is really quite obvious. I do not have that interesting of a life, so I have time to ponder these random questions that others of you may be too busy to examine. Plus, I'm well versed in sports and pop culture, and this is one of the few things that thiose qualifications suit me for. Glenn, why do I get a hard-on every time I read your column? - Sun Sun, the answer to this question is obvious. Yhe intense masculinity of my writing is bringing out some feelings that you have long hidden from yourself. Go see a shrink and see if they can help you get over your closeted emotions. Glenn, why were your NBA predictions so far off? I lost a lot of money on your picks and you'll be lucky if your knee caps remain intact. To start off, I hit 50 percent of my picks. I nailed the game the Lakers would put away the Spurs, I picked the Celtics in six, it took five. I haven't been sold on the Nets all year, I guess I was wrong. In my defense, I thought Mashburn would play by game two, oh well. The Mavs were done in by numerous factors, but I place the lion-share of the blame on Steve Nash. We knew before the series that Van Exel was inconsistent, we knew that Dirk should be renamed because he has no "D". With the exception of the one victory, which he single-handedly won, Nash was a complete non-factor. Hell, worse than that, he was a detriment. He was repeatedly toasted on defense, he turned the ball over repeatedly, and generally played like a chicken with his head cut off. I expected better. That said, the 80s-nostalgia finals are coming: Lakers in six Celtics in six Will Yao Ming be the real deal? Let me preface this opinion by saying that I have only seen him play once, in the world championships a couple years ago. That said, I'll offer my opinion like an expert anyways. The players that you hear him most often compared to are Shawn Bradley (the detractors) and Dirk (his fans). First, I think he'll be beter than bradley. I think if I was 7'6, I'd be better than Bradley. What a wasteful #2 pick. Anyways, I think he'll make people think twice before driving down the lane strictly because of his height. He also has some outside shooting ability, so he could make an impact on offense. No one will block his shot. That said, he is very raw. I wouldn't want the Rockets to take him, he needs to much time to develop. Plus, he will demand a clause in his contract that he can be recalled to the Chinese National team at any time. How would you feel if you were his teammate and he left for ten games during a stretch playoff drive? Plus, he will be SOFT!!! The guy ways sixty pounds less than the stick figure Bradley! That is plain scary. Can you imagine Ben Wallace pushing him around, let alone Shaq! I'm going to a movie now, so this column will be cut short. Goodnightnow. |
