| June 20, 2002 - I just realized its Thursday so I need to come up with some random thoughts: I played golf with a women named Victoria Kuntz last weekend. You know that she had to think twice about taking her husbands last name when they got married. Especially with the first name 'Victoria' ...she doesn't need her dog's name and her first street address to create a porn star name. What is it like to go through life having people chuckle every time you spell out your last name. "How do I spell that? It's K-U-N-T-Z...stop laughing...stop it..I mean it..I'm really going to have to bank elsewhere!" Nothing quite as good as junior high humor. What, you didn't want this column to turn into my depresseing ramblings, did you? July 27, Aussie-rockers The Vines are coming to Houston to play at the Engine Room. Everybody in the area has to come with me to the show...consider it an early birthday present to me. Someday, you'll be able to brag to your kids that you saw The Vines before they were big, in a small venue. And they still won't think you are cool... I'm very psyched up for the World Cup doubleheader tonight- The de facto championship match (in my opinion) Brazil vs. England and the Germany vs. the US. I'll be a waste at work on Friday...not that I'm not usually. I must admit I'm typing this column from there right now. AudioGalaxy.com has been shut down, for all intents and purposes. What a sad day for 18-25 year-olds everywhere. The music industry got them, leaving me and millions like me in a state of depreession. A few peer-to-peer sites are still open...I've tried SongSpy before and it paralyzed my computer, I'm probably going to try Kazaa.com next. I'm kind of bothered by all of these reports coming out months later about how the government had the intelligence information to have prevented the attacks on 9/11. Normally I'm hesitant to take the Bush administration's side on anything, but I think the points they are making here are valid. Information like this flows in daily and almost always nothing comes of it. Mistakes were surely made, but none are so egregious as to cast blame...everyone would have done everyhting in there power to stop the attacks. Even if all of the information available had been acted upon, I doubt that any lives would have been saved. I need Top 5 lists...I'm running out of ideas. Although i have been rooting for the US and England throughout, wouldn't it be kind of nice to see Senegal win it all. I can't even fathom what that would mean to Western Africa. If you have even a passing interest in soccer, check out Michael Davies's diary on Page 2 at ESPN.com and the site www.football365.com. I saw Glengary Glen Ross for the first time on Monday. What a cast...Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Alec Baldwin (he was actually very good). The movie itself was alright, but the acting was so good that it played like an actor's workshop. They all seemed to be shooting for Oscars. I'm pretty willing to count the Astros season as dead now. Being swept by the Brewers, who had the worst record in the majors coming into the series, was enough to make me lose my faith. This isn't even like the NFL or NBA where tanking a season will give you a high draft pick who can help immediately. The worst part is there is nothing really to blame it on...injuries have been the problem they were in 2000 and it has just been simply a case of poor production. With the Astros, I don't get angry...I just get sad. I have a confession that I have to get off of my conscience. I really like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and George Clooney. I know most movie fans and purists hate these guys because they are more stars than actors, I have always found them to be winning on screen. They just seem like three guys who would be fun to go down to the bar and watch the game with. Ok, because I cannot think of anything more homosexual to say than the above comment, I bid you adieu. |
