With the withdrawal of the Dambusters from the roster of the Rim Expeditionary Force, Admiral Morgan immediate set out to find replacement fighter support.  Unable to find an established squadron available for immediate transfer, it was decided instead to create a wholly new squadron to fit the bill.  After pulling a few strings, Admiral Morgan soon had a dozen brand-new VF-11G Thunderbolts secured for transport out to the Rim Expeditionary Force, but the Admiral was unable to find enough pilots to fly them.

At the same time the Silverhawks, a training squadron flying out of New Pensacola base back on Earth, was just coming up for graduation.  While it never been the policy of the Spacy to tranfer whole training teams into active service together, Admiral Morgan was able to get special permission to do just that with the Silverhawks, provided that some veteren pilots would be cycled into the squadron. So, with less than three days until graduation, the Silverhawks of New Pensacola suddenly found themselves uncermonously tossed onto a set of Fold-capable shuttles bound for the Galactic Rim.
