Welcome to the DIRE Wolves, the thirteenth Deep-Insertion Reconnaissance and Extraction Platoon of the UN Spacy Marines Twenty First Force-Recon Battalion. Originally formed by Chief Warrant Officer Thomas A. Kaine, Covert Operations Specialist of the UNS Eagle, with special permission from Force Recon Command, these twelve hand-picked men and women of the UNS Marines specialize in those missions deemed too dangerous or controversial to expend regular forces.

Armed with state-of-the-art cutting-edge equipment and weaponry, the average cost of outfitting a single DIRE platoon is roughly equivalent to the cost of arming an entire light infantry rifle battalion. The bulk of the cost comes in the form of the Appaloosa CS-4L Stealth Dropship and the customizable Cyclops III Powered Armor (a man-sized mecha utilizing the best of both Zentraedi and Terran technology, rendering the Wolves impervious to most small-arms fire and dramatically increasing their combat effectiveness).

The Wolves are far from being heavily-armed front-line grunts however. Each soldier is trained in a wide variety of skills, from computers to wilderness survival, sharp-shooting, demolitions, security systems, and field medicine. This makes each individual soldier extremely valuable, while at the same time making the unit as a whole able to adapt to and excel in any situation.
