Squadron
History:

The group of pilots known today as the Phantoms had their beginnings
years ago on the Planet Eden. At that time, the Phantoms were
actually a training squadron attached to the Eden Defense Corps, but
that changed after the Varuta invasion. The Phantoms were
given active status during the first few days, but after the
decimation of nearly the eniter EDC chain-of-command, they soon became a group
of resistance fighters during the occupation. Despite only a
handful of their personnel having had formalized military training,
the Phantoms did a valiant job in their fight against the Varuta
invaders.
Casualties were high, however, and only a fraction of their number
remained by the time UN Spacy reinforcements arrived. Eventually
the war for Eden ended, but not before the Phantoms had proven
themselves time and again as they fought side-by-side with the UN
Spacy squadrons. In appreciation, the Admiralty decided to
instate the Phantoms as an official squadron of the UN Spacy.
After much consideration, Admiral Amberdate chose the Phantoms as the
second squadron for the Rim Expeditionary Force. Although the
cutting-edge VF-19 Excaliburs assigned to them were a far cry from the
damaged and salvaged mecha the Phantoms were used to piloting, such technological upgrades were necessary if they were to succeed in
the unpredictable environments the Rim Expedition was sure to
encounter.
Since their assignment to the UNS Aerie, the Phantoms have once
again shown themselves to be some of the most tenacious and capable
pilots on any UN Spacy roster. Their ability to respond and
adapt to any situation, inside or outside their mecha, has made them
invaluable to the success of the Rim Expedition.
