As preparations for the launch of the UNS Aerie from Stargazer Station continued, it became evident that ship-wide security on the scale of the Survey-Carrier would need much more man-power than the single Marine Space-borne Platoon than attached to the Rim Expeditionary Forces.

Working within the same tight security as the rest of the REF preparations, Marine Space-borne Administration planned to expand the MARDET Platoon to full Company size.  All told, the new Company would be comprised of a full administrative staff, two Line Platoons, and two Platoons of Combat Engineers.

For several weeks prior to the scheduled launch of the UNS Aerie, many small Marine Units were moved, first to the Shangri-La Colony, and then on to Stargazer Station itself.  Before preparations were complete, however, the Stargazer Station was attacked and captured, resulting in the capture of the two Line Platoons.

After much debate at Marine Command HQ, the remaining forces of  the 1st Martian Colonial Marine Battalion (known as "The Martian Highlanders") were diverted to Shangri-La station to rendezvous with the damaged Rim Expeditionary Forces.  They were subsequently re-assigned to Captain Yamashido's command, thus replacing the missing personnel.  Fielding the latest in Terran weaponry, vehicles, and equipment, the Aerie's MARDET is ready to handle any threat.
