My Birthday Gift

My birthday came so very soon
After I was forced to say goodbye,
To the best son anyone could want
His love always my greatest high.

I did not want to celebrate
Without him it didn't seem right,
But he was there as he always was
In spirit with me that night.

As outside with our neighbors we stood
Around the corner he did peek,
They ran to see just where he went
To see him they did seek.

He was gone when they did look
No more did he appear,
The reason for his visit became
To me so very clear.

It was my birthday after all
Nothing better could I have required,
Than knowing to me he came that night
And gave me what my heart desired.
